Question:
Has anyone gained some weight back?

How did you lose it? I'm five years out.    — Rhonda Q. (posted on August 19, 2009)

First you should sit down and try to recognize how your eating habits have changed and why? It will take a lot of soul searching but you will be surprised. Once you figure that out then "Back to Basics" you go. Not so much the liquid phase, but I would say, eating food in the ounces again and protein first and veggies and the carbs. A lot of people do use the liquid phase to prepare for phase 2-4, which I think is a good idea. Have you stopped excercising or slowed down more than normal, and when did you notice this weight gain? Was there a trauma in your life, something sad or even something happy, I eat when I am happy too. So also write down what you are eating so you can reflect back and say to yourself, wow, I really ate the whole cup of ????, when I should have only eaten half. I hope these tips help you. I am 3.5 yrs out and I hope I don't need to post that I have gained, but what is causing the gain if you could share that would be great, so I can share in other groups too as to why we gain.

Well, I have really ate the same the past 5 years. I exercise every day. I run 10 miles, then work out for about 2 hours. I did start going through menopause this year. I've noticed the weight in my belly and thighs mostly. I get really nauseated. No soda, sugar, carbs...I eat baked chicken or fish, veggies. Water to drink...It really bothers me...

Wow, it seems to me that you are doing all the right things not to gain weight. My guess is that it is the menopause, changing of the hormones. thanks for sharing. I never thought about menopause as being a key factor in weight gain. But it makes sense.

Well, I go to my surgeon for my yearly check up tomorrow. So, we will have along talk. I'm willing to do whatever it takes. I did go see the dietician, and took my log book where I write everything down, and she said I was doing everything right too. That it was not uncommon for people to gain about 40 lbs back...and I said NO!!! I don't want that too happen. So, I will see what my surgeon has to say. I will let you know. I started at out 351 lbs, down to 188 lbs, now back up to 223 lbs. I don't like it!!!

It has been six years and I have gained about 55lbs back. I hate it and I am miserable. Because of health problems including arthritis, lupus, and some other health issues, I am in pain alot. Therefore, I don't really feel like exercising at all, but do try to do something like walking everyday even if it is only a little bit. I do try to eat right and have even did some radical things like meal replacements and phentermine and nothing seems to work for me. I am on a steady climb upward. The extra weight hurts and is slowly but surely making it impossible for me to get around comfortably. I started out at 265. Got down to 152. Now weigh 207. I need help and I need it bad. Look forward to hearing more suggestions. Thanks for reading...

I also am five years out. I have started to gain weight as well. That is why I have returned to this site. I started at 375lbs lost to 170 and now am back to 250. I am very frightened. I noticed that sometimes they do lap band on top of gastric by-pass. Have you heard of this?

Hi Rhonda, I too am 5 years out and a runner and going through menapause. Ask your doctor for thyroid check (labs) I recently had to increase my thyroid meds, twice this year.

based on what you are saying it looks like the menopause may be the culprit! your entire body is changing and it will probabley just take a while for it to get regulated back to where it can burn calories/fat instead of being in the hold on/store mode. have the doctor's check your thyroid levels and make sure they are within normal range-because some women have to go on thyroid replacement once hitting menopause. you are doing all the right things so just keep up the good work and things will work out for you. hope this helps..Holly

Hi all. I went to my gastric surgeon this morning for my yearly check up. All 4 pages of blood tests were normal. I had gained 10 lbs since last year. So, I am continuing my log book of what I eat, and do. I am also going back to eating like I did the first 3 months of surgery to see if I can get back into losing. I go see him in October. So, if anyone would like a buddy to talk to my email is [email protected]. Please email me. Thanks...Rhonda

And, yes, my cousin had a RNY after me, and he put a band around her stomach in addition to the surgery so she wouldn't stretch it out.
