i thought i would never be able to eat chicken again, either. give it some
more time. i'm about 3.5 months out and am now able to eat chicken and
some beef. try to put it in some sort of sauce to moisten it, cut into
VERY small pieces and chew a lot.

I am having the same problem. I have had 3 times that I have eaten it and
it gets stuck. I had an egd one time because of it being stuck. It is
frustrating and I deal with not wanting to eat at all each time that it
happens. Chicken is one of the better proteins with getting in daily total
Protein. It is dense tho and fills us fast. I think probably we dont need
1/2 of what we are putting in for the same result as a protein shake or
something else? I hope it gets easier. I love chicken. Im not sure what
to do about that. Some people have said to cook it in a slowcooker with
some soup(cream of chicken soup) and it will fall apart and be very moist.
i hope it gets easier for you. If you come up with any good recipes for
chicken that work, let us know ok?! Congrats on your journey!

I find that chicken, as one of the denser proteins, has a habit of becoming
stuck with me, too, doesn't matter how small a bite I take or how long I
chew. However, I think I've found out the secret! Instead of 3 - 4 ounces
(I'm 5 months out), I only try to eat maybe an ounce and a half to two
ounces at a time, and voila! I don't get stuck! Same thing with Turkey and
Tuna or other cooked fish. I'm not a big red-meat-eater, so I can't talk
to you about steaks or beef in general.

I've noticed that dark chicken is better because it is more moist. A
drumstick. Just make sure the meat is very moist and chew alot! I've
thrown up chicken a couple of times. I am around 3 months out.

I haven't had surgery yet but I was told to try chicken about 4-6 months
post op and any foods that I won't be able to tolerate in the beginning to
try them later on down the line before I totally rule them out.

Eat it with fat free gravy or cook it in broth so that it is moist and as
another responder wrote eat very small amounts at first. You are still
healing and it takes time to be able to eat dense proteins.

Hi! I had the same problem, but with beef and pork. Someone at support
group suggested eating a bite of bread with the meat and it should help. It
did. I can eat beef and pork without any problems. I am 13 months out now.
Best of luck! Hugs,Kim

I'm three years post-RNY and about the only meat I can tolerate well is
CHICKEN... for me, hamburger is the thing that doesn't seem to go down
(sticks in my throat - the texture - ugh)... but I miss a good hamburger!
A friend who also had the RNY can't do shrimp... doesn't seem to bother me.
As the surgeon said... whatever you can tolerate.... and everyone is
different. It's weird! Enjoy what you can!
