i had the lap band down july 24, 2008 and only lost 30 lbs and that was the
with in the frist 6 wks, lost 21 lbs the frist week. I eat right and work
out and nothing. I have had 7 fill and stil feel like i did before the
surgery never felt full. So I want it out and try something else. lot of
people talk me out of doing rny before and i wish i had have done it
instead of lap band. How has it been for you.

I have lost 120lbs my RNY was done July 1st 2008, I have not had it real
easy with going to solid foods..BUT would not have changed anything. I have
had to have several scopes done as I have had issues with foods getting
thru the pouch opening. BUT I keep my protein level up and drink tons of
water and take my vitamins. On the other hand..I know of 2 others that have
had the lapband and one lost 200lbs, the other only about 40lbs. Both
were/are exercise crazy-I am NOT. I did have a choice when I had my surg as
to what I wanted and did not want the Lapband just wasnt sure it would work
for me. You really have to be willing/able to stop all use of SUGAR. The
ONLY real trbl I have is lost the weight and my false teeth dont fit
therefore cant chew! Other wise it is all worth it. Would do it all agin!
Best of luck and see you on the LOSERS BENCH!

i really feel for people who have had the band and haven't had success.
the premise behind the band is that it will keep the top part of your
stomach full faster and longer-- but many people do not respond to this
feeling-- the rest of the stomach still feels hungry. with RNY (or VSG or
DS) the nerves are CUT OFF (or part of the stomach is gone) so you don't
feel hunger in the part that is left--only your pouch. i think that people
need to be warned about this prior to getting banded.

For me deciding on which one to get was pretty easy. First of all, people
that have the lap band are prone to band slipping, the stoma growing scar
tissue over it so it blocks the opening to the pouch and you pretty much
starve so surgery is needed to fix it. (That happened to my friend).
Problems with the port and fills. Insurance companies will do the RNY
without any problem. With the RNY if you have 100 lbs or less to loose,
that is a good choice. But this is a process in which you can't rush it.
Be patient to reach the solid food phase. You aren't hungry for the first
3-4 months, but watch out for head hunger. Just remember we didn't put the
weight on over night, so it won't come off over night. If you do get the
RNY, please be patient and be good. Cheating and eating bad foods are a
pattern we are used to. We have to change the way we feel about food. I
had decided to let go of my food addiction before my RNY 3.5 yrs ago and I
haven't had any problems with it. If you have a good doctor and follow his
instructions, you will do just fine. We need food to live, we don't live
for food. Best wishes.
