Question:
Is butt pain common?
I've lost about 25 lbs so far and I'm noticing a "butt-ache" after sitting at my desk for a while. I haven't lost that much so I'm worrying this is going to get worse as my backside really starts to shrink. — Karen T. (posted on May 26, 2009)

Yes, you are losing the padding and the bones are shifting back into place.
I had it bad. It will improve as your body adjusts to the weight loss. If
you have lost alot fast, it makes it worse.

yes i think so..if its on the sides or up high. I have a tailbone issue if
i sit too long. Just no fat in there anymore to hold me up. If it isn't
high or the bones, please refer to your doctor who may be able to give a
better explanation. Best of luck! hugs, Kim

I don't know how common it is, but I had it. It started for me about 2
months post RNY. I've lost more weight and different parts of my body are
adjusting but the butt pain seemed to have gone away for now.
Good luck and keep up the good work!

I've got pain, too. I figured it was from my padding being gone. My
fiancee thinks its funny, cause I used to make fun of him for shifting so
often to get comfortable. Now its me who is shifting all the time!

I know, my husband (naturally thin) is always complaining about his chair
being too hard and I've always said I don't need a chair pad, I bring mine
with me. I guess that will change now.

Look at you posture as well. try putting a small folded towel under the
edge of your butt and see if this helps. It shifts your cneter of gravity
and sitting position.

I find that doing stretches for my lower back and hamstrings helps with
pain in the hips or butt. I lie on my back (I do it in my bed) and bring 1
knee to my chest hold for 20 seconds repeat each leg 3 times. Then I lift
my legs up hold sholder width apart and then pull my knees into my ches 3
times for 20 seconds. Then I hold each leg straight up for 20 seconds each
side stretchin the hamstrings. This has really helped me with lower back
and hip problems maybe it can help you too.

OH YEAH. I have the same issue. I lost all of my butt padding and now have
a boney butt instead of a padded butt. I constantly have to adjust and move
around to get comfy. I really feel it when I take a bath - boney butt on
the hard tub surface, ouch. Unfortunately, I don't have much advise - other
than adjust and move whenever you need to. It's going to be a part of your
new life - boney butt. It might sound funny but I bought a little throw
pillow and keep it in the car - when we got somewhere when I know I have to
sit for any length of time I whip it out and use it. I don't care how it
looks. I take it to the movies. Doctors office. Anywhere I know I will have
to sit more than 30 minutes. That is my threshold - anything more than 30
minutes and I am done for. At work, they allowed me to pick out and buy
whatever chair I wanted so I was lucky. I bought the same chair as I have
at my home office. Good luck. Again, sorry I don't have any great advise.
Take care and welcome to the loser's bench.

Not sure if butt pain is "common", but I had it at about 2-3
months post op (I am now five months and it subsided at about 4 months
haven't had it since). It felt like someone had punched me in both butt
cheeks and the muscle and bone hurt really bad for a while. My butt was
the first thing that I "lost". I think the pain was from how fast
it was "srhrinking".
