Question:
Help, almost 2 weeks and insision leeking?
hello, i had my rny bypass on the 24th of feb. laproscopic. i have staples holding everything together. i am going tomaro to have them taking out. all of a sudden i relised that i had a wet spot on my shirt and i looks and the insision that the drain was organialy attached to is leaking. is this normal? idk what to do. im kinda scared. also i feel like i mite have stretched my pouch bc when i eat its not compleatly puree, i have like corn and chicken in my soup that i chew like crazy then swollow. otherwise things have been fine. — vmidiri (posted on March 5, 2009)

Sometimes the drain wounds are the last to heel up. The thing to notice is
what color is the drainage and does it have an odor. If it is yellow, white
and thick, green these are all not good. If it has even a faint foul odor I
would notify surgeon immediately. However some drainage is not entirely
bad. Clear or light pink drainage is ok. As far as the stretching of the
pouch, well I don't know much about that one.

throw away the corn and chicken buy baby food or puree your own food you
will continue to be sick if you do not follow the guidelines they are very
important

I agree with the above statements, but still - wonder why I didn't have to
have a drain or staples. They put these super sticky circle bandaids over
my wounds and took them off 10 days later and they were all better. I never
had a drain. Weird. Don't worry about your pouch but yuou need to stop
pushing it. Only purees now. Tiffaney.

i agree with the other post. i had open rny on jan 5/09. the site where
the drain is heals last. i had open, and the bottom of my insicison leaked
a brownish color. it didnt stink, but i was still worried. my doct told
me it was ok, just as long as it wasnt thick, yellow and green. also, stop
the chicken and corn. i am 2 months post op and can just now eat chicken.
you have to wait for your stomache to heal. good luck

Victoria, I agree with the others,You shouln't have any solids at all now,I
eat cream of mushroom, cream of chicken,
potato soup, all types of sugarfree puddings and jellos (I even make sure
they are pureed with no lumps of any kind) My wife wanted to puree
enchilados and speghetti for me but its not on my list yet,so I'll stick to
what the Dr. calls for.He does have an excellant track record.Hope this
helps

I guess others have said it well - absolutely no way you should be having
things like chicken at this stage as that very tender tissue inside you is
trying to heal. I just passed week 4 yesterday and I am having like 1/4
cup of things like potatoes, oatmeal cereal, just starting bits of soft
noodles/pasta, and the only "meat" allowed is flaky baked fish or
canned tuna/salmon which I make into a pureed salad. Please be careful!

You are going to the doctor and he will tell you if everything is OK. But
your drain incision will take the longest to heal and my doctor told me up
front that it would probably leak some fluid, if it did I was to place a
small piece of gauze loosely over it so that it didn't get on my clothes.
You should be fine, as for the puree issue, I think you are probably doing
fine, although my doctor won't let us eat corn for at least 6 months, he
says it is really hard to digest.
