Question:
Does anyone know if BCBS covers Revisions?
I had Rny in 2002 and I have regained most of my weight back. I am now seeking a revision with my Surgeon Dr. Celio Burrowes. Has anyone had a revision done? How much out of pocket expences did you have to pay? And what kind of revision did you have done? — M. Hall (posted on April 18, 2008)

I had RNY in 2002 and had regained 50 lbs. My carrier now has an exclusion
but they covered the revision due to the medical necessity. I had a fistula
which caused pain and pressure. Could that be your problem?

I can't speak to the insurance question as I was self pay. I do know
however that my surgeon is frequently doing LapBand over Gastric Bypass
patients that have regained weight.
Sorry I couldn't have been of more assistance.
Good luck to you,

I am so sorry for your story. Please be careful in choosing to do a
revision, the research out there indicates that many people do not lose
much if any more weight with a revision. Insurance companies are pulling
away from this surgery for that very reason. It can put you at risk for
bigger complications and not have much of a benefit. I don't mean to
discourage you, just be careful. Take care. Patricia P.
