Hello,
Congratulations on having the surgery. yes this is normal it is called
ketosis and this will last for like another 2 weeks or so. Buy sugar free
mints it will definitely help you. It drove me nuts for about 5 weeks.
Wishing you all the best.

Hey Shannon....it's the ketosis (buring fat - like crazy). It can give you
bad breath, bad taste in your mouth, can also give you body odor, etc. I
would buy some SF mints or SF candy and suck on them to help the bad taste
in your mouth. And like I did, asked someone I trusted (my husband) to tell
me if I "smelled" outwardly to anyone as well. I only had the bad
taste in my mouth - luckily the bad breath and the body odor never
happened, but it could happen. Good luck and welcome to the loser's bench.

I was like that coulndt drink water tasted like sewage. solved it by
drinking sugar free grape koolaid very strong to mask the horrid taste.
dont worry over time it will go away. ketosis is your friend;)

I've heard many people (primarily women) who tell of a "taste in their
mouth" after surgery. It may be from anesthesia, but that's just a
guess. I'd ask you doctor. Your sense of taste will change after surgery,
and that's normal.

Very interesting! I have this problem too - so good to see that it's not
just me ... and it will go away eventually! Thanks everyone!

If you are using Listerine, stop! It will make things worse and the
alcohol in it is horrible for your oral tissues.
Try and find a gum/candy that is sugar free and contains xylitol and make
sure you drink a lot.
Best wishes.

this is normal. it is one of the ways your body is adjusting to your new
pouch and the limits, food wise and drink wise, that you are having to
follow for the next few weeks. once you can start your regular type
post-op diet, this should ease or go away altoghether.
