Has anyone had NASh or NFLD and had gastric bypass and had serious issues?
I see a liver specialist for NASH. He recommends against the surgery-Gastric Bypass. Has anyone had the surgery that had NFLD or NASH and had issues? — praelynn1 (posted on July 18, 2007)

My liver specialist was pleased as punch that I had surgery. I have NASH
and bridging fibrosis. I guess they are all different. I did have RNY I
don't know what type you were going to have. I would get a couple of
opinions obviously everyone is different

Hi Pamela, thanks for writing, I do not know what Nash or Nfld is, but I
do agree with Diane, the other responder, ask for a 2nd opinion, and be
sure you do your research about these health issues and I would recommend
that you don't move forward with surgery until you personally understand
all the risks and possible complications involved. If this surgeon
recommends against surgery find out why. It could be a real health issue,
or it could be that he is in the group of doctors that think it is not
affective and does not support wls. There is a difference. One thinks it
could harm you physically, and one just doesn't believe the surgery is
affective for anyone and could make things worse for you if you don't lose
weight. Maybe you can call your hospital that supports the surgery and get
a liver specialist that can give you a 2nd opinion. Also, go to webmd.com
and look up these things and do some research on it so you are up on these
things. YOU are your best advocate. Don't depend on doctors and staff to
judge your health, research and defend your own health, you are the
decision maker, be sure you are informed. Take care. Patricia P.
