Question:
About how much weight should you be losing a week when a month out
Im 5 months out. Last month I only lost 5lbs and this month Ive lost 10lbs. What do you normally lose a week/month? — barfiep01 (posted on June 14, 2007)

Which surgery did you have? That makes a big difference.
If it is Lap-Band then you should be losing about 8 lbs a month. If it was
RNY then it totally depends.

Theres various factors that play a part in how much a person looses.. If a
person is heavier they tend to loose quickly at first... Also the level of
activity plays a part.... I started out at 475 so the first week I lost 35
pounds.... but the others that I know who werent as big as I was lost alot
less at first... I had the RNY.... but basically everyone loose at there
own pace...

It depends on how much you have to lose and what kind of exercise or how
active you are. After 5 months your weight loss will slow down. After 5
months my doctor said to expect less than 10 lbs a month. I am 7 months
out and have lost about 77 lbs. I have about 10-12 more to go. If you
want to lose more quickly, start exercising daily, drink more water and get
more protein in. Those things usually work!

Truly, there is no correct answer here. Some women lose quickly, some
fairly quickly, others are slower. It all depends on YOUR BODY. It all
depends on what, how and when you eat. It all depends on your exercise
routine, how often, how long, how intense. It all depends on your liquid
intact. Your protein intake. Your vitamin intake. I would say you are doing
fine. I have a friend who loses around 6-7 lbs. a month. Everyone is so
different. If you are concerned, see your surgeon. :)

Hi Patricia,
I looked at your profile and your weight loss looks pretty close to mine. I
had RNY 9 weeks ago and have lost 55lbs.
I've talked to a few people and they said you might have a slow month but
then it picks back up when your body adjusts at that point. your body
always has to have a little time to readjust, just like when you hit a
plateau, you have to change the daily routine, caloric intake and
activity.
best wishes to you! Looks like you're doin Great!

Hi! I agree with the other posters. It really differs so so much from
person to person, and it's super hard not to compare! Trust me, I know! But
if it helps, I am 11 months post-op and I have lost 147 pounds, But my
weight loss was so different from month to month. One month I would lose 6
pounds, the next I lost 20, the next 13...this month I have lost 0,
nothing, nada- but, I lost inches! So, don't give up, you are doing just
fine! Hope that helps some!
