Question:
I will try and not to be to graphic, pardon the spelling

This started the Tuesday the week before Thanksgiving. On a sidenote, I had WLS on July 14. BAck to the question. Ok so on Tuesday morning I took a bite of Chicken that I had cooked the night before for dinner, and after 1 bite I put it back in the frig. About an hour or 2 later on my way to work I started to get cramps, cold sweats and feeling like I wanted to throw up. Now I've never had dumping so I'm guessing this is what it must feel like. When I got to work I was in the bathroom every 30 minutes with diarrea and the feeling like I was going to throw up. I wasn't sure if I had food posioning or the flu so I took the few days off of work and went and saw my PCP and she said it must have been food posioning. After a couple of days I felt better, then on Wednesday Thanksgiving evening I had an .5 oz of a pork chop with some greens beans. Again about an hour or 2 later I got the same feeling as before on that previous Tuesday, this time I was up all night throwing up and having diarrea, I called my surgeon and spoke with him and he said if i continued to throw up to go to the hospital and call him. I slept that whole day and I was filling fine on Friday. Then last night at around 3:30 I woke up with really bad cramping and I was shaking because i felt so cold. When i went to the bathroom again the same thing happened. The only other difference about this time was the last thing I ate was a peice of string cheese at 5 that night. I'm calling my surgeon on Monday to make an appointment, but I wanted to know if anyone has had this happen before.    — Jenney (posted on December 2, 2006)

You may have a strcture, gop see your surgeon and PCP. Theres a CHANCE it may not be surgery related at all. You may have a intestinal bug of some type. That happened to me at a month or two out. But do see your doctor. Also check your temperature. You might be running a fever and not know it. In the mean time drink PLENTY of liquids, to stay well hydrated. Peria light for electrolytes may also help.

Jenn, I'm just over six months out from rny. I still cannot eat any poultry, not chicken, not turkey. If I try I have "dumping" vomiting. I also have to be very careful with pork. I can only eat a coulple of tiny bites of a pork chop and none at all if it has been fried. I have no problems with any other foods. My doc says this is not unusual and over time it will resolve itself and I'll be able to eat poultry and pork again. Until then, I'll just avoid those foods unless I want to spend three days feeling horrible and running to the bathroom. Maybe your digestive tract needs some real pampering until all the irritation from the chicken and pork has settled down. I sure hope you feel better soon. Seeing your doc is a good idea!

I cannot eat any meat as leftovers. I immediately start dumping and throwing it back up. I have attributed it to be that the meat is not wet enough. I especially cannot eat chicken if it is not very fine. I am 11 months out, btw.

Jenn the only time I've had a problem is when I haven't chewed up the meat very well. I still have a problem with stuff unless it's very moist or chopped really fine. The diarrhea I only have if I've eaten something I shouldn't have that has suger in it or veggies. You need to have your surgeon check you out cause it's defiantely a problem when you do this more then once in a blue moon. I'm not even going to try a speculate what might me wrong that's the surgeons job. Good Luck and I wish you well

I have and still have the same problem. I show a reaction on allergy scratch testing to most of these foods and I was having the same problem before I had WLS. I also had a stricture and some of this got better for a few months after the stricture was dilated. I fould out my worst reactions were to dairy (eggs, cheese margarine, anything with whey in it) and beef, grains, any seasoning, processed foods. So I would recommend you talk to your doc again and maybe consider a food diary to figure out some of it. I know living like this is horrible and I hope you find some answers soon. Take care

You should see your surgeon to rule out a stricture or some other problem, but it may just be what you are eating. I cannot eat chicken without getting sick, and I am almost two years out!
