Question:
Any advise on laproscopic surgery
I am going to have laproscopic surgery and was wanting some advise on what to do and not to do. Can anyone help me out? — missyheffelfinger (posted on September 21, 2006)

The keys to my success having undergone laparoscopic surgery several times
was to lie still and let the anesthesia do its job.
Actually, for RNY remember that it is critical for your liver to be supple
and as small as possible, so follow your surgeon's low-fat, low-alcohol
regimen for at least 2 weeks prior to surgery. Also, have a small pillow
to brace yourself when you first start to take deep breaths and when you
need to cough (in other words, use it to hold against your abdomen when you
are first starting to use it after surgery). Lastly, make sure you get up
and walk as soon as allowed as that will help dissipate the gas that is
used to expand your abdomen (which is needed to make surgery easier).

I had lap RNY 6 1/2 months ago. I have to say there isnt much to it. I can
honestly say I had 0 pain after surgery(although the anesthesia made me
very uncomfortable after. All I can say is walk alot in the first couple of
days in the hospital(to get rid of gas!) and where your binder. Good luck
to you!!

You made the right choice since the recovery IS soooo easy!!! I had my GBP
surgery done last summer; went in the hospital @5am and was released
@7:30am the following morning!!! :O)
My advise is to do EVERYTHING the surgeon tells you! I was on liquids
before and after my surgery. I didn't experience any pain, only discomfort
after the surgery due to the gas they have to fill you with to do the
surgery....I'm down 57lbs. since July and doing great...still learning my
new lifestyle....Good Luck!
