I used to get hiccups a lot after I first had surgery if I ate too fast.

I am reading a book on WLS and hiccups is a "complication" mentioned in the book. It's minor and something that you have to live with...seems like an annoyance to me!

Tammy, Yes, I have gotten those Dad-Blasted Hiccups too! It seems as if they will never stop. I get them especially at bedtime. I fifured it was from taking my meds and drinking the water too fast. It's gotten better. Normie :)

I haven't had surgery yet but I went to a pre-op class this week and they said if we got hiccups bad to call them immediately so you better contact your surgeon right away.

I am 15 months out, and I get the hiccups every time I eat one bite too much. Soemtimes I get them before I feel full. My husband knows when I've had enough to eat!!!I can't get anything past him!!! Sometimes I get them when I haven't eaten, too. The sound is kind of like a pig's squeal. You are not alone. Best wishes to you. Love and blessings, diana

The reason you you get the hiccups post surgery is that your new stomach sits higher than the old one did and when full can touch your diaphragm(spelling) causing temporary irratation and resulting spasms. For all of you you non-anantomy geeks lol thats the muscles that controls breathing and when spasms produces hiccups.

I also get the hiccupps, I find it happens when I eat too quickly and especially on an empy stomach. This use to happen before I had my surgery and they were much worse then. Take care.

You think hiccups is bad, I sneeze after I eat...lol Depending on how full I am, if slightly full, only a couple of sneezes, if too full, I sneeze until I throw-up. This has been going on since my surgery 3 years ago, doubt it will ever end. Good luck with your hiccups.
