Question:
10 years post op and gaining weight.

I am thinking of a revision after all these years because I have gone from 190 up to 240. This is scary. I feel like a fat person again    — randy S. (posted on March 26, 2006)

Is there alot of flatulance with the DS. I am also very afraid of the malabsorption. Not being able to absorb calcium seems to be very serious problem with the ds patients. Any feedback??

Have you had your mechanics checked? It's certianly possible your antique surgery has broken down. Staple line disruption (SLD) is very common among us 90's people. It is not automatically YOU, since you were successful for 10 yrs. Check your mechanics before you blame yourself. Get with other long termers and compare notes. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Graduate-OSSG

Randy, I thought about a revision for about 3 years and finally did it. It turns out that my staples had come undone. My doctor requested the scope test, I think it was called endoscopy given by a gastroenterologist. I was relieved to find out that gaining my weight back was not all my fault.

Randy, I'm 8 years post RNY op and calcium has never been a problem. Probably because I love cheese as a snack. My problem is iron deficient anemia. If you take the Calcium tablets one at night and one in the morning you won't have any calcium problems. Remember a regualr body only absorbs 600mgs at a time. Take magnesium supps to to help with the absorption.
