most of the insurance companies are now making it mandatory for those having WLS to go through a diet program before surgery. I think there thinking is if you are serious enough to have surgery then you will make an effort to lose weight before. A lot of people now days think this surgery is a quick fix to lose weight, and it is not. I know of a number of insurance companies that require 6 months supervised diets, and Weight Watchers and the rest of the weight loss groups are not groups that count for 6 months of supervised diets. it has to be your PCP

NO,i don't think that its a quick fixs, my reason for wanting wls is is just as medically necessary as your. or more, and like i said, i'm already into the supervised diet just wanted to know if about the exercise, and no my pcp did not order it, she referred me.

Hi, I had my surgery on 04-25-05 and Ky medicaid covered it. I am so very thankful for that. I was approved after the first attempt. I used my doctors reports from 1970 until now. I have been on doctor supervised diets all my life and every time I went to the doctor I was told to lose weight. I used those records plus W.W. records that I had kept like the weigh in books. Before surgery I was diabetic for 2 years and also using the cpap machine. I no longer am diabetic nor do I have to use the cpap machine. I still am on high blood pressure medicine and cholesterol medicine. I also take Wellbuttrin XL 300. Good luck on your weight loss journey. Keep the faith that it WILL happen and it will. This surgery has saved my life and totally changed my life for the better. I am so thankful that I was able to have it done. Good luck to you and take care. Judy
