Susan, I'm 3 yrs post op and have lost 125lbs. I started going to OA
(Overeaters Anonymous) about a month ago. I am a compulsive overeater and
eat to cope with all kinds of emotions. OA doesn't endorse any kind of
diet and you work within your own food plan. It has been helpful for me.
WLS doesn't fix your brain. Best wishes!

Hi,
I am in exactly the same boat. I am 9 months out - lost 89 lbs and am
starting to eat for emotional reasons.
I, too, am off all my diabetes and blood pressure meds.
I still need to lose about 30 lbs also.
I'd love any suggestions also.

I'm three years out and have the same problem. I have been obese since age
2. They can operate on your stomach but what about what's in your
emotional make-up. I went back into counseling, also exercizing every day
helps. I have done quite well, but I know I will always be an emotioal
eater. Best of luck to you.

I am 5 months out of surgery and have lost 100lbs. I still have problems
with the emotional eating and that is why I see my counselor/psychiatrist
every two weeks. You need to deal with the emotions of the emotional
eating or you can't ever stop that cycle. If you don't have a psychiatrist
and are low income, check out the free clinics in your area. Most will
offer a sliding scale. The benefits of a good counselor are tremendous and
they don't call you surgeon and tattle on you. Good luck- from one who
knows alot about emotional eating

Emotional eating is NORMAL. It's what everyone does. They just don't have
the obesity disease so that it shows. We've had high stress here at work
and my staff brought in Reese's on Monday, Krispy Kreme on Tuesday and
cookies today. Oh? They are all normies who are in normal wt ranges. We
have ways of fighting the regain by substituting healthy things that do not
induce more stress, but if you simply cannot remove the stress, the
chemical reaction within is still going to be there. We can't pretend that
there is not an overflow of cortisol firing up the appetite. I personally
use protein drinks. I do 30g at a time, made with water, so no sugar, no
guilt. Altho I do plenty each day, I'm not afraid to take them back to back
if it keeps from from getting in the car and heading to the 7-11 for
Twinkies. You might get some other ideas on the Grad list.
