Question:
Jumpstarting Metabolism 2yrs Post Op
I am trying to lose my last 30 lbs as I just stopped losing. What can I do to jumpstart my metabolism again to start losing my last 30lbs. Please help! I tend to gain 5 lbs and then lose 5 lbs and it is driving me crazy. — flygirl55 (posted on December 1, 2005)

Hellooooo, yes I know what you are talking about. Your body is deciding it
is where it wants to be. First of all, I'd recommend you take yourself
away from the scale for a bit. We, women, tend to gain water weight at a
drop of a hat. So, weighing often will drive us crazy. Secondly, check
your eating and exercise plan. Are you eating protein first, not drinking
half hour before and after a meal? Are you getting all your water in?
Change your exercise routine a bit.

It's time to join the Grad list. No guarantee that you'll get the rest of
the wt off, but there's also the trick of maintaining the loss you have
achieved. There is a lot of combined long term experience on this list and
I'd recommend it in conjunction with this site and any local lists you
use.

Have you had an REE and body composition done? The REE will tell you what
point your metabolism is at. My doc put me on ephedrine 1 1/2 tablets
twice a day and told me to exercise in the morning before I take the first
dose, that way I have kicked my metabolism in gear first. The first REE I
did my metabolism was at 130 % and the second he did because I was so tired
and I wasn't losing even though I had been fairly compliant. (Let's face
it, sometimes all of us slip a little) He found that my metabolism had
dropped to 70%. I have to go back next week for another REE to see what is
going on and I am hoping that it will be up. I didn't lose anything for
about 3 months, of course, I was one of the very fortunate individuals that
had to run from the stupid hurricanes this year and was out of my house for
a month. Its hard to keep a schedule when your world is turned upside
down. But I weighed in today and since Oct. 20 I have lost 11 lbs. Don't
let is get to you and the other lady was right about not riding the scale,
it will only get you down. I try to only weigh in at doctor appts. And no
matter whether the results are what I expected or not, I treat those visits
like I was going to confession, I rat myself out about the things that I
should be doing and am not and I tell about the things I do that I
shouldn't been doing too. Hang in there and keep plugging. I am on my
last 50 lbs. and I have lost 173 lbs to date. Debbie

Hello,
I am 9 months out with 30 lbs. left also . Having a very hard time with it
. I have stopped losing weight and started losing only inches, which they
say it better, but I need to see the numbers on the scale go down too .!!!

I am at a plateau myself, but still have like 40 pounds to lose. It seems
for the last two months I have kept stalling. Several things I have tried
is increasing my protein, increasing my water, increase exercise. I have
tried all those to a point, then I just gp back to normal routine. It
seems no matter what I do I don't go down in weight.

I truly appreciate all of you who responded. Going back to basics seems to
be the concensus. I think taking in protein every couple of hours
(alternating proteins), drinking water only 30 min after eating, sugar free
popcycles, and my protein shakes is a good jumpstart. I remember that I
did not even exercise that much except walking so I will start at the
beginning again. Good luck to all of you that are in the same boat. It
is good to know that there are others who are stuck with the last 30-40
lbs. Good Luck to all and Be well.
