Question:
Has anyone took medication for Neuropathy after gastric bypass surgery?

I had gastric bypass surgery on April 12, 2004. In the summer months after loosing around 100 pounds in 5 months. I started to have pain in right foot. The neurolofist indicated I had neuropathy. They have tried me on Lortab, Topomax, Nuerotin 600 mg( 6x day), and Amitripaline, and Nortripaline. and the other day he placed me on Celtoran. These medications have torn my stomach into pieces. Has anyone take any different medication you found that works good?    — lkirkland1 (posted on January 20, 2005)

Lance Y ou have my sympathy with this neuropathy stuff. I have it in both feet and so fat the only thing they have tried was 300mg neurontin twice a day. I have beeen absolutely miserable. What kind of dr are you going to? I had seen my surgeon and my cardiologist and they both said neuropathy and then my cardiologist sent me to a podiatrist but still haven't gotten much help. I cannot wear socks and shoes at all, so I hope and pray yours does not get that bad. Good Luck and will let you know if they give me anything different from what you are already taking. Kathy

Lance, you do not "have neuropathy and it only show up after losing so much weight so fast". Neuropathy is nerve damage and people with diabities can get it, but there is something causing the nerve damage. Are you seeing a neurologist? What vitamins are you taking daily? What are you eating daily? If you will read my profile, you will see that I had complications and ended up with neuropathy, starting at my chest down. I still have it from my knees down, but my neurologist assures me that it will eventually go away. I take massive doses of B vitamins (by my neurologist's direction) daily and ensure that I drink enough fluids and eat enough protein. This can lead to permanent damage to your nerves, you need to get this addressed as soon as possible by someone who knows what they are doing. I take 200mg of neurontin 3 times a day, but my lower legs and feet still tingle most of the time. I've come a long way, I was using a walker and a wheelchair for several months and now I can walk unassisted. Feel free to email me if you want more information. Good Luck!!

Yes, you may have neuropathy. I think I have it also. I have pain in my hands and wrists like carpel tunnel but Dr's says I don't have carpel tunnel. I have pain in elbows, knees and shoulders. The worst of all, I have pain in the heels of my feet like a stone bruise. I am 4 yrs post op. You need to research Neuropothy.
