Hi Marty, I fyou already are on a cpap machine then you will not have to do
another sleep study just make sure that you tell your doctor and bring a
report from your pcp to your surgeon so they have it to admit to your ins.
co. so they know you already have sleep apnea-k. And, if you are already
seeing a phychologist or even a physchriatrist, then just tell your surgeon
that and they should then have them give a evaluation at your own
psychologist, that is what I did! Good Luck to you!

I have a slightly different view from the last poster. I have sleep apnea,
use a CPAP, and have for a while. My surgeon required a follow up sleep
study and found that I needed a pressure increase from 7 to 11.5. Had this
gone unnoticed, and my surgeon not followed up, there could have been
severe consequences from this. Just thank God that you have a concientious
(sp?) doctor that is taking every precaution pre-op to minimize problems
post-op.

Hey, glad you asked this question 2 weeks ago my GP surgeon told me I neede
to see the sleep doc again. I thought it was because he wanted me to do
another sleep study. It turned out all they really wanted to do was check
and see if my c-pap was still working for me and to take a arterial blood
sample to see whst my carbondioxide levles were like. Although he said I
need to be smoke free for 90 days he did not order another sleep study.
Hope oyu have much luck in your journey.

This will depend on your insurance and your surgeon. I wasn't on a c-pap
and not in therapy and I didn't have to see either.

Hi Mary, Although I don't know the answer to your question, I am very glad
that you are already on CPAP prior to your surgery. Please make sure that
not only your surgeon, but all medical personnel such as anesthesiologist
and nurses taking care of you are well aware that you have sleep apnea. My
friend, Ginger Brewster, who's story is on the memorial page of this
website died because she went into surgery with untreated/undiagonsed sleep
apnea and no precautions were taken for her having it. Please be safe!
Best of luck to you for your surgery.
