Question:
do you still have a cycle when you have the depo injection

i have the depo injection every 3 months. i dont have a period at all. do other depo users find they retain water as they would do in a normal cycle and that it affects their weight loss at certain times of the month.    — JULIE B. (posted on July 1, 2003)

I had a heavy flow with the Depo shot. I would bleed for 3 weeks straight, then nothing for 2mo, then have 2 periods a month, it was a disaster! I started getting migrains so bad they had to put me on medication for them and I never got headaches before then. After a year I could'nt take it, so I tied my tubes. Now my periods are normal and I never have headaches :o) Good luck to you!

I had one shot about 5 months prior to my wls and I gained 20 pounds in 30 days. I did not have a period until it was time for my 2nd shot, which I did not have. I then had a period for over 6 weeks. I 'm surprised I was not anemic before my surgery. That stuff is poison and I will never take another. Go to a web site called depo provera horror stories. I'm getting my tubes tied as soon as I have lost more weight.

Hi, I've been getting the depo shot for about 10 years now. I used to have very heavy, painful periods that would last more than 7 days, even on the pill. Since using the depo shot, I had a spotting for about 2 weeks after my first shot, then for about a week after my 2nd shot, and ever since then I've been period free. I did get one when I had my appendix out, which freaked me out because I thought that the surgeon had knicked my urethra or something...wasn't expecting it to be a period! LOL... Anyway, that was in 1996 and I haven't had one since. I haven't noticed whether I retain more water at certain times than others; my cycle was never regular anyway. I haven't had surgery yet, so I have no idea how it will affect my weight loss, but I suspect that it won't affect it at all; I've been on Zoloft for about a year and a half and have maintained the same weight since I started that. My weight gain was not caused by Depo; I was gaining weight long before I ever started getting the shot. I know lots of people have had bad experiences with depo, but for me it's been a Godsend because not only has it prevented pregnancy and stopped my terrible periods, but it has leveled out my hormones so I don't have such crazy mood swings. I notice I start getting very emotional at the end of the 12 weeks, and I know it's time for the shot again. I will honestly probably keep getting the shot until menopause!! :)

My cycles have always been weird. Without drug intervention I bleed 24/7/365. In fact when I was a teen I did have my period for over a year before my mom confronted me and we went to the dr. I have been on birth control ever since or else I do have problems. Dr.'s blame the weight of course as my reason for bleeding and infertility. Anyway.....I got a depo shot in November and it stopped my period for 6 months. I didn't notice water weight gain since I was preop. I got a second shot after having surgery and my first period in 6 months. I would rather be a slow looser, than to get pregnant not having any birth control form too soon after surgery. If I do have a period, I don't loose weight that week. Just how it goes for me. Everybody is different.

hi i have been on the depo shot off and on for the last 8 years. I do notice that around the time when it is for a new shot I do retain water. I am preop so I don't know the effects of it after surgery, but I do know that I have not had a period since I got on depo which was in may. usually I have a period right before it time for another shot. i think of it as a reminder notice that its time.

After my first child, (1995) I took the Depo injections for a year. I never had a period all year and I felt bloated and edgy more than when I had a period regularly. I stopped taking them and felt better. Good luck with them.
