Question:
DOES ANYONE EXPERIENCE NAUSEA WHEN THE COOK?
I EXPERIENCE NAUSEA AND BREAK OUT IN A COLD SWEAT, BECOME DIZZY WHEN I TRY TO COOK. THE SMELL AND LOOK OF FOOD COOKING GETS ME VERY ILL. — NANCY W. (posted on December 31, 2002)

My first month post-op I was just like that, so I didn't cook at all! (I
never threw up though.)But eventually it got better, I'm almost three
months out and love the smell of food again!Take care!

Hi. My Mom was reheating some spaghetti yesterday and I got so sick from
the smell I had to rest a bit. I am 5 weeks postop and right now the smell
of food makes me sick. As a matter of fact food is a big turn off right
now, but hopefully we will both enjoy the smell of good food again! :)

im 6 months postop and I get sick from kitchen smells and the smells from
dinner dishes even before the table is cleared. When I go out to eat, I
have to pick up my plate and set it on the edge of the table - away from me
- so I can breathe. Sometimes... I even have to get up and leave the
restaurant for fresh air for a few minutes.

I didn't have that exact problem. But when I was a new postie (the first
two or three months) I found that once I'd eaten that I couldn't stand to
be around food, food smells or people who were eating. If we were in a
restaurant, I'd get up when I was done and go sit in the car. Just
couldn't take it. It does pass though - so take heart :>)

I didn't check your profile but I'd say you are a relatively new post op
person.....I was the same way at first. Not my own cooking, but driving
home from work and passing a KFC or a local hamburger joint, the smell of
the greasy foods being fried was enough to make me want to get sick. This
too shall pass. Happy New Year and happy journey.
