Question:
What is considered MILD, MODERATE OR SEVER SLEEP APNEA?
What is the CPAP SETTING? — ERICK B. (posted on November 16, 2001)

I believe that over 40 AHI (apnea/hypopnea index) is considered severe. I
can't remember the other figures. Your CPAP setting varies by person. For
example, I have severa apnea and have a setting of 7. My husband has
mild/moderate apnea and he also has a setting of 7. The pressure has more
to do with your anatomy than the severity of the apnea. Having said that,
it is probably more likely that the higher your AHI, the higher your
pressure setting will be. That's why you need to have a "titration
study" to determine the right settings for you. Also, the severity of
your apnea cannot be determined without a sleep study.
