I have a friend of my Moms who had the earlier type of this surgery done in the late 70's. She is 70 years old now and is still as thin as ever. She weighed 400 lbs in 1974 by 1975 she was down to 140 and maintains this to this day.

There are a number of long-term clinical studies done on the Duodenal Switch procedure of 10 years or more postop. You can find them at this URL: (http://www.duodenalswitch.com/Procedure/Clinical_Data/clinical_data.html). Personally, I don't know of any 10 year clinical studies for the RNY or other procedures. Maybe someone can post them here for us? Good luck to you! --->>

MY Surgeon SAID: i can put you in the drivers seat, but I can't make you drive the car properly...that's up to you.

My uncle had wls 23 years ago. He weighed 600lbs. and was seriously ill. Wls was a last ditch effort to keep him alive. We went from 600 down to 250 and has maintained his weight loss for all these years. He was my inspiration. He's been relatively healthy since then also. He did develop a hernia about ten years after his surgery, but, other than he's been perfectly normal.

I knew a lady that had surgery in the 70's early 80's....I don't remember what the name of the surgery was but I do know it was the type where you eat and as soon as you eat you have to go pottie.....I have no idea what they called it back then.....She got to her goal and then gained 75% of her weight back...She was a cook by trade and her parents ran a diner......She is the only person I have every heard say they wish they had never had the surgery ( You know besides the few that do right after surgery)...but anyway that was eons ago......She told me she never made adjustments in her foods.....I met her in the mid 80's and she had already gained back the weight when I met her but she still had to find a restroom after she ate......So I guess it is like everyonelse says this is a tool....No miracle cure....I have lost 69 pounds but I have sooooo many eating habits I have got to change or I will be in that 25% that failed.....I think I am really getting it now but it has taken me 5 months post to get to that point but I still have my faults with food....Okey I am rambling again...
