Question:
DOES ANYONE KNOW IF SPASMS OF THE ESOPHAGUS PREVENT YOU FROM HAVING WLS SURGERY
MY SURGEON CANCELLED MY SURGERY LAST WEDNESDAY BECAUSE THE UPPER G.I. TEST REVEAL THAT I HAVE REFLUX AND MAIN CONCERN IS DYMOTILIT OF THE ESOPHACUS. IT WAS EXPLAINED THAT MY ESOPHAGUS SPASMS INSTEAD OF RELEASING CONTENTS EVENLY INTO MY STOMACH. HE WANTS ME TO SEE A SPECIALIST TO DO A DYSMOTILIT STUDY AND CLEAR ME FOR THE SURGERY BEFORE DECIDING TO PROCEED. ANY INFORMATION ON THE MATTER WOULD BE VERY HELPFUL, IS THERE ANY CURE, MEDICATION, OR AM I NO LONGER A CANDIDATE. — PATRICIA B. (posted on September 29, 2001)

I am also being postponed and possibly cancelled due to what they call nut
cracker esophagus. They found out I had this through the esophageal study,
but I do not have any of the symptoms (chest pain or trouble swallowing).
I see the doctor tomorrow, but the nurse told me there is a high risk of
not being able to swallow at all after the surgery. I am afraid they are
going to cancel my surgery scheduled for 12/20/01. I started this process
last March and I am going to be very dissapointed if I can't complete the
surgery. I will respond again after I see the doctor tomorrow. Good luck.
