Question:
I am 35 and my OB/GYN said it's not safe to be pregnant for me
I am 35 and my OB/GYN said it's not safe to be pregnant for me because I've had a gastric bypass and tummy tuck. Is this true because I don't think he is right is this true? — A.Mason (posted on August 20, 2011)

Well, you are prob healthier now, then before those surgeries. I had GB in
2005, TT in 2008, found out I was pregnant 3 mos post TT at the age of
41!!
I know have a very healthy, active 2 y/o at the age of 44!!
I did not have any complications due to either surgery...only thing, my
tummy prob isn't as flat as post op!!

I had my last child unexpectedly at 38. I have had gastric bypass and had
a tummy tuck. May people actually have gastric bypass so they can get
pregnant. I am guessing your stomach might not be as tight from your tummy
tuck after being pregnant, but mine actually is. I think your person is
wrong, you might be higher risk and I would definately suggest staying on
top of your vitamins in a major way, but I would get a second or third
opinion.

Your OB/GYN sounds like so many of the general public: prejudiced against
gastric bypass. Eight years after the duodenal switch and six years after
a belt lipectomy (lower-body lift), I gave birth to a healthy
seven-pounder. And my stomach snapped back into place afterward. By the
way, I was years older than you. Don't let your doctor cheat you out of
motherhood. Best of luck!
