Question:
vitamin deficences that cause the tongue to get cut.
I have cuts on my tongue and today I was told that it might be a vitamin deficience. — insideout (posted on November 16, 2010)

It could be a lack of folic acid or B12. I would suggest some blood work if
you haven't had one lately

Do some research on geographic tongue or tongue fissures. It can be a
vitamin deficiency, so it's a good idea to get bloodwork done. It's not
always a vitamin deficiency though. It's more common than you think. I had
never heard of it when I was diagnosed with it nearly 15 years ago. At the
time I had kidney issues and was on prednisone. I've always wandered if
that's what caused it because all the blood tests show no vitamin
defiencies for me then or now.

I actually had an allergic reaction to a strong antibiotic (Augmentin, to
be precise), which caused a severe case of "glossitis"....my
tongue started to feel burned or scalded, it seemed to lose all its taste
buds, it became moderately swollen so it made talking a fairly interesting
proposition....and the inside of my cheeks began to hurt. Even after I'd
been off the medication for quite a while, it still stayed sore. This
happened back in mid-August, and even though appearances have returned to
normal, I am still not able to tolerate even the mildest of spicy foods.
You could be suffering from an allergic reaction. But, a vitamin
deficiency could also be the culprit - OR too much of a particular vitamin,
like vitamin C.
