Erin, this is a tough one. What this means is that the company that your
dad has his insurance through does not include WLS as a covered benefit. I
have heard of exceptions being made in extreme cases if the situation was
life threatening. You would have to have comorbidities such as type two
diabetes, heart problems, high bloodpressure, joint problems verified by
your doctor for them to consider you. The other alternative is for your
fathers company to change their benefits to include WLS in next years plan.
I do so hope something works out for you, good luck and God bless!

Most or some insurance companies do not cover weight loss on the policy.
Meaning, that it has to be deemed medically necassary by your doctor. Your
doctor has to see that you do need the surgery. Exclusions on the policy
refer also to things like they won't pay for Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers,
tummy tucks, things like that. But if you can get your doctor to deem it
necessary and you have comorbidities, diabetes, high cholestrol, sleep
apnea, acid reflux, (things that are considered life threatening). A
family history of these things aren't enough, you have to have them
yourself. Best wishes. My policy had exclusions too, but keep pushing.
