Question:
How long can a stall last?
I had RNY in May and have lost 75 pds. But the last month n half i've been in a stall and only lost 6 pds. i am doing nothing different, excerising, getting protein in and drinking plenty of water. I don't understand why its lasting so long and if this is normal amt of time. Suggestions? — amanda1972 (posted on October 11, 2010)

Hi Amanda! My first stall lasted a little more than 8 weeks and I lost
only 2lbs during that entire time. In fact, I gained and lost the same
2lbs for 8 weeks. It was frustrating. But then one day, I woke up,
stepped on the scale, and was down 6lbs. It's been slower since my stall,
but I'm about 7 months out (RNY) and have lost 105lbs, so my weight loss is
slowing down (which is fine with me!) All this to say, keep on keepin' on
and it will resume! Best of luck!

Amanda, Don't get discouraged. It happens to us all. I had my RNY on
November 6, 2006, and lost a total of 206 lbs. I think its because you
have not changed anything. Your body gets use to the routine and will
stall. Change things up, my favorite was to not excerise for a week, then
double what I normally did. It shocked my body "back into shape".
I have used the same method for the 3 1/2 years since my surgery, and had
to work to put some of the weight back on. Dr was saying I was to thin.
Good luck, and work the program. It works.

Okay here goes my opinion and my Dr's diet. I was not allowed to have any
carbs until I lost 75% of my weight. When I had more carbs my weight loss
slowwwwwwwwwwwwed down a lot. Listen to your Dr and your NUT, as I did. I
am now having a time of keeping weight on.
What about exercising?

I am so glad you asked this question because I am having the same problem
for the last 2 months. I had RNY April 26 and those first 55 lbs came off
fast. Now nothing. I do still excercise and make sure I get in plenty of
fluids and the protein. I have started to really watch the carbs now and
hope that will help some too. Good Luck to both of us.

Hi. I agree with Sharon. Change things up. I stopped working out for two
days then began again except I added a different exercise to my routine and
the pounds started coming off. Some people tell me to look out because they
think I am getting too thin and not eating enough. I spoke to my surgeon
the other day and he said that he was not concerned about my weight and
that he would let me know when he was. I hope this helps and congrats on
the weight loss you have to date. I also had the RYN. It was the best
decision that I have made in a long time! Pilar12
