Question:
Protein drink sources without soy?

I am 9 months out from my RNY (down 90 lbs!) and am having trouble finding a protein powder/dring without soy. I also am a breast cancer survivor and am not supposed to eat soy. Any ideas?    — galford (posted on March 6, 2010)

I believe that the alternate form of protein would come from whey. Perhaps do a search here on whey and I'm sure you will get all kinds of protein discussions. You should be able to find some brands from that. Hope this helps.

I am pretty sure Unjury is all whey protein. It is very highly recommended. I use unflavored with crystal light almost evry day. www.unjury.com

Most surgeons recomend whey protein for rny patients, as it is easier to break down. Unjury uses only Whey Isolate. GNC also carries a powder called 100% Whey. It comes in several flavors and container sizes.

Whey should be a good option for you. I use only whey just becuase I like the way it makes me feel. I am currently using (have been for about a year now) Gold Standard 100% whey powder. You can get it at GNC and I love it. You can mix it hot or cold so I even put it in my coffe or SF Hot Coco...

Jillian Michaels has a whey protein that you can get at Walmart. It has a good taste; I believe one scoop is 100 calories, 1.5 g of fat, 3 fiber, 3 sugars, 7 carbs...and most importantly, 15 g of protein. Of course, if you consider trying, check the ingredients out before you purchase. Good luck!

I use Gold Standard 100% Whey Protein Powder (Vanilla Ice-Cream flavor)120 calories per scoop and 24g of protein. There's no wierd after taste or smell and it doesn't make my cup all sticky around the rim. It taste delicious and I've tried at least 6 different protein powders and it's the BEST!!! I'll drink it for the rest of my life without any hesitation!!

Whey isolate is the best absorbed protein, I have read , for bariatric surgery patients. Inspire and Nectar products are 100% whey isolate. They mix easily with water, come in different flavors and are quite palatable.
