Question:
losing weight
How does this weight loss work. I am 5 days post op. When I got home from the hospital I had gained 11 lbs. Yesterday I had lost 7 of that 11 lbs. Now today I gained 2 lbs. back. What is with that? — cuppaloopy (posted on January 2, 2010)

It does seem odd, doesn't it. I mean you haven't had anything to eat so
how could you possibly gain weight? We've all asked this question and we
all feel for you. It's normal to gain weight while in the hospital. I'm
surprised you lost 7 pounds in one day! That's wonderful. And now you're
like...I gained 2 pounds! What?! Again that's normal. You're beginning
to feel a little better and you're drinking more.
It's very difficult at first to not be a slave to your scale but please cut
back on the weigh-ins. If you can manage weigh yourself only once a week.
I remember the first few weeks I weighed myself several times a day and the
more I weighed myself the more frustrated I got. I had to force myself to
weigh once a day and then every other day. Eventually I managed the
willpower to weigh myself once a week. Don't spend all of your time
concentrating on the numbers on the scale. Instead look at what you can do
now that you couldn't do before. Measure yourself on your abilities and
your selfesteam.
Good luck on your journey Barb.

They say you can gain right after surgery, I found out that I only weigh
every 10 days, because prior to that, I was going nuts and obessed with
weighing.
When I am at goal, I will weigh every other day.

yes~ do not weigh yourself every day. So many variances...have you gone
potty, are you retaining water, gas build up etc...just do it once a week.
The weight will come off if you do everything by the letter. Do not eat
what you aren't suppose to, and drink your fluids, get your proteins in,
etc. It took longer to gain it all than it will to lose it all. Keep the
Faith! Best of luck ! hugs,Kim

Hi Barb, Did your surgical staff not explain to you that most obese
patients are severly dehydrated when entering the hospital. Then at the
hospital they give you I>V> liquids and then you are plumped up so to
speak. Then you have the normal interior swelling that is associated
withthe surgery then you come ho me and can barely eat anything but just
enough liquids to survive... Then there is the issue of your obease body
not wanting to give up the stored weight. It is fighting with you. Now you
stressing about it wo n't change the facts so just hide your scale and
watch as you close suddenly start to feel looser and then go to the stage
that they just are way toloose then you need to shop for new undies because
if you lift your arms you fall out the bottom of your bra and when you walk
your undies fall down inside your pants... LOL DOn't worry so much all is
normal. Jus sticke to what the doctors have told you to do. By the way.
Don't forget you are a woman and we do tend to have body water shifting
when we hit cycle ti me. even if you don't have a cycle anymore your body
still will have the water shift.
