Oh ya...I am there. I had surgery on 12/18/08 and in March it started. I shed like a dog. My Dr suggessted I take extra biotin. That has helped...it doesnt stop it completely but it helps. I was also told that I would only have this issue for about 6 months...I take about 1000mg extra of the biotin...good luck

I also lost a lot of hair, and I had really thin hair to begin with! I take 5000mg of Biotin daily, I'm not sure if it helped my hair grow in or not, but my nails grow like crazy. I'm just thankful that my hair didn't grow back in gray!

Hi! I did the biotin and upped my protein intake from 60 to 70 grams a day. As soon as it falls out, it grows back..so have no fear..I have lile 3 inch hair all over right now. I am not sure if it ALL grew back, but enough that I see it. Best of luck and God Bless! hugs, Kim

My already thin hair got very thin starting at about 3 months post-op. My surgeon says thast people who lose rapidly seem to have more hair loss. He suggested I take Zinc supplements. It is now 8 month post-op and it is growing back. I got it cut really short and bought a couple of cute $40.00 wigs to get me throught it. For 45 years, my hair and small feet were the only things I liked about my body so it was very upsetting to see my hair get thinner and thinner. It is coming back curly again and growing (but slowly). Now I can put it in perspective and in the scheme of things, really isn't that big a deal. I just tell people I have gotten thinner all over, including my hair!!! Good luck!

I had a VSG on 9/30/08 and I noticed my hair falling out around Jan and in Feb saw my beautician and she suggested Biotin and B-12. I started it that day and my hair is nicer than it has ever been. It has body and seems to be thicker. I'm happy.

Mine began falling out at about 3 months and continued till about 6 mos PO...I tried all the suggested remedies and nothing stopped it from happening as with all of us that experience it. I took biotin and extra B vitamins, used treated shampoos, cut my hair a little shorter to take the weight off the roots...kept it pinned up to help as well...But it still fell out in alarming amounts...I have chestnut colored hair and could see my thru to my scalp...but no one else really noticed as I did...It began growing back at about 5-6 mos PO...and I began seeing little peach fuzz at receding hair line...It all came back in and it came back a better softer, shinier texture! I always had wavy hair but it came back in ringlets of bouncy and shiny locks!! That was that! It was over! I don't believe you can stop it with some cure or none of us would have to go thru it if they really knew how to prevent it...It happens to most of us and it grows back in most of us...It's approximately a 3 mo span from start to finish...So hang in there and try the biotin as it's good for your hair regardless! Try not to stress about it too much...It is scary...I was warned, but was not prepared for all of my long lock to end up in my bra, down my pants, in my families clean laundry, in the drain...wrapped around my vacuum roller, in my food! EVERYWHERE but my head! LOL It stops!
