Question:
What can I use for protein instead of Ensure, Instant Breakfast or such?

I really don't like milk so I'm having trouble with the protein shakes even after being on them for 2 week prior to the surgery. I am okay with the strained cream soups and vegetable juices, but find myself hungry because I'm not getting enough protein.    — foran_mary-hotmail.com (posted on May 1, 2009)

Hi Mary, Isopure has ready made drinks...45grams of protein per bottle..also CNP..Proslam 45..its 3.0 oz . I also use other protein powders and they may be mixed with water inplace of milk. I found that I can handle most anything as long as it is REALLY ice cold. Also, I add some protein to coffee as I have coffee in the mornin. My group meeting people have had some great protein ideas..like Ricotta cheese mix a little cinnamon, vinalla. Tastes like the filling in a canolli. There are namy things we use to eat that with a few alterations to fat..sugar free we may still enjoy! Hope this helps you think of new ideas.

My very favorite protein shakes are the Rich Dark Chocolate EAS AvantEdge shakes. I don't like dark chocoloate, but this is so much better. The french vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate are okay, but a little harder for me to handle. They have 17 carbs in 11 oz. You can find them at Walmart for under $5.00 per box of 4.

One great option is "Lean Body". I have found it at GNC and Vitamin Shoppe. It is excellent and if you can drink the carton, you get 40 grams of protein and it tastes great. It's a bit expensive though. One case, which is 12 RTD cartons, will cost between $34 to $45. If you can afford it, it's worth it. Walmart also have a brand they carry that I think 2 scoops gives you about 50 grams protein and it is real cheap and you have to mix it yourself. Hope this helps!
