Question:
Does anyone have chest/stomach pain post-op 9 days?
I am post op 9 days and I am having pain in the stomach area to the esophagus after I have something to eat--(drink). I am being very careful with what I ingest but the pain feels like I have a heavy object is sitting on my chest. Any clues or advise or wisdom? — janeen4947 (posted on February 21, 2009)

I feel like that when i eat or drink too fast. Maybe slow down and see how
you feel. Dont eat the piggy bite and this willhelp. slowing down is the
ticket for myself. If i feel bad i take a rest and take a nap to get by
it.

I have experienced a similar pain since LBS that begins near my port and
continues on the left side of my chest that ends near my neck. It has been
suggested this happens when I'm aggravated, have gas, eat too fast or take
"piggy bites", eat dry food or when I am too full. You will
learn to listen to your body to avoid this uncomfortable sensation. I also
find soup, hot tea and warm liquids help to relieve this feeling. In the
beginning, the biggest hurdle is to sync up your head with your stomach.
As overeaters, our head and eyes have become adjusted to larger portions
and after WLS you have to continue to tell yourself that small portion are
enough. You have to stay constantly aware or you can hurt yourself. Good
luck.

If you are still having pain you need to talk to your doctor, things can
happen if you can not drink or eat the right amont of food. If u are still
having pain call and ask the professionls it could be gas,it could be u
eating or dringing to fast it could be any thing.

I too had the same pain early post-op. I was drinking way too fast. I
also had problems with cold liquids. It gets better and my pain did go
away after a couple of days. If you tried this already or are just a bit
scared......call your surgeon's office that's what they are there for.
Take care!

I feel the same way if I eat or drink to fast or if I don't chew well
enough, a couple of times I have had to just make myself throw up and then
try eating again. It is uncomfortable for sure. Make sure you chew
everything (even soft stuff) really well and eat slowly, you are still
healing and will be for several more weeks. Also make sure you are not
drinking the 1/2 hour before and after eating. And if you are really
worried don't hesitate to call your doctor, you paid him a lot of money for
this service. Good luck. -Cathy-
