Hi...don't know about being "normal" but I'm 3 1/2 months and still have the gas and occassional diarrhea. I'm thinking the gas is something we just learn to live with...?? Some days are worse than others...I didn't realize how easy it was to "clear a room" {lol} Take Care ~

I am 9 months post-op and it does get better:) I only get the gas etc... after certain foods! The only problem is that I can have gas one time and not the other. Maybe it is an accumulative effect? Good luck, Rena @ 112lbs (lost 115 lbs forever!!)

Congratulations on your surgery! Yup, it's normal and MAKE SURE YOU ARE GETTING YOUR FLUIDS, especially, since you're having this problem. Dehydration is no joke. It should start to get better soon. Good Luck!

All the answers so far are great and are you doing some exercise? Take a short walk or walk your dog if you have one. That way you both get exercise and the dog can do its businesss. Also watch what you eat and drink as much water as you can. Shirley is right; dehydration is no joke. You really don't want to get it IV. vinnigirl, retired RN

Broth really caused me problems, so I stuck to Isopure ready to drink protein for over a week. I really don't have much gas 9 weeks after surgery... but if something causes me trouble I stop eating that for awhile. It will get better as your stomach and intestine heal. I guess we have to pay attention to what we can digest. Good luck.

I'm about 10-11 days out from my RNY. I didn't have much gas but certainly had diarrhea - now slowly resolving. I get the sense from others with same procedure that it's a pretty common issue. As others have said, just keep on drinking plenty to keep hydrated! Cheers.

Don't know what happened to my previous post. Congrats, even though you may not feel it right now. I'm 13 days out of surgery, and also had prob with gas. My DH just compliments me on how loud & powerul it can get. But I had the opposite problem. Costipation so severe, I had to finger manipulate myself, even after the suppository the Doc recommended. I also stopped vicoden, my pain medicine. This can cause constipation but is also known to give people diarrhea. It can be tough to walkk outdoords with the diarrhes. I had diarrhea type IBS before the surgery. So when exercising, i was always near a bathroom. As has been said many times already, drink your fluids. It is extremely important. You may want to try otc liquid Immodium. But first of all, contact your Doctor , or his/her support staff. I have and they have been very good with my questions. Carol Ann

I had my RNY Dec.8, and I believe it was about 2 to 3 weeks before the diarrhea was gone. I just remember it seemed like it got a little better every day. I don't get gas that much, but yesterday I had a container that had a straw and that gave me terrible gas. I talked with the counselor at the support group last night and he said that is why they recommend not drinking out of a straw, because you swallow alot of air that didn't make a difference before with a regular stomach. Just know, it will get better.

Well me and my 17 yr old daughter are 8 days pot opshe had the RNY and i had the vertical sleeve gastrectomy. 2 days post op i had explosive diarrhea and the doc told me it is from the swallow study crap they make you drink. It can cause the diarrhea. So i believed himat the time. maybe the broth you have is too fatty. My daughter never got the trots as i call them now. But it took her 5 days before her first BM. For the gas we were told we can take beano. You will have to crush the tablets first. See if this helps. Gail
