I had Open RNY Sept 15th and this week I go from 1/3 cup of food to 1/2 cup
of food. My food is definitely cold by the time I am done eating and I
have had to reheat my food many times in the microwave for about 15 seconds
so I could stand to finish eating it, especially depending on what it was I
was eating. I am sure I will be doing the same with even more food to eat
now. I would guess this is a very common thing. Congrats on your surgery
and best of luck to you! :)

some days I can eat a kids meal other days I don't even come close - I am
training for the LA Marathon so I am constantly having to eat to fuel the
bod. I will microwave my food if it gets cold. I have even asked them at
restaurants to do it for me - they have always done so. Or..I just grin and
bear it - which means I eat it cold. Depends on the food - some foods, I
couldn't care less but other foods like Lobster - needs to be hot.

Yes, it's because we have to eat slowly, so by the time we should finish
it's cold. I thought i was the only one.........

This happens to me too. I think because I cut everything up into such
small bites before I even start eating and eat slowly. As a lapbander, we
aren't supposed to take more than 20 minutes to eat to prevent us from
grazing, but the food still gets cold.

I got one of those electric mug warmers and put my plate on that and it
does a pretty good job of keeping the food warm.

Yes, I have the same problem. It takes me about 45 mins to eat a meal. I am
always the slow poke eater. I am always rewarming in the microwave...

I have not had my surgery yet, but I was told about this happening. When I
asked what to do, I was told to use one of those coffee cup warming plates,
that you would use to keep your coffee or tea warm, to keep the food warm.
It's worth a shot.

Hi, Peggy.
I'm pre-op, but I have thought ahead to cold food (yuck). I plan on using a
mug warmer, for whatever can be in a mug. For a meal with several different
food items, I plan on using a baby food warmer dish, where you can put hot
water inside it. Since I use baby-sized forks and spoons (stainless steel),
it will be totally cute! :)
Hope this helps.
Blessings,
Mary

After a year or so, you should be able to finish your meal in 20 minutes or
less! (15 is a good number) It stays warm in that time. But when food is
pureed or cut up really small before you eat, then yes...It gets cold
really fast...But for the amount of time it takes to chew, you should leave
your meats whole and cut it as you go...This keeps the food warmer longer
and gives you something to do while chewing! LOL Seriously though...if
after a several months you take longer than 20 minutes to eat...you need to
stop eating past those 20 mins whether you think you are finished or
not...If it takes you 45 minutes to eat a meal...You are probably over
eating by twice what you should have! ...Not a good idea! All of this
eventually becomes automatic and you won't need to count or time or measure
etc. (maybe occassionally to make sure you are still on track) Eating
becomes a regualr normal"auto-pilot" type function again...and
food stays warm til you are done! There is a time when things get as
"normal" as normal gets! You can use a heating stone (round
stoneware disc or square heated in the oven, often used to keep pizza and
breads warm) under your plate too or those baby food dishes that you put
hot water in the bottom to keep the food warm too. I like the mug heater
idea...That's probably the easiest and cheapest.
