Question:
Itching in hands and feet

6 weeks post up, hands and feet have been itching for 5 weeks, ever since I came of the clear diet. I thought it might have been something I've eaten but I've not consistantly eatin one thing except water. Has anyone experienced this?    — [Deactivated Member] (posted on September 24, 2008)

Are you drinking any protein shakes? If so which kind? When I began drinking UNJURY protein drinks it made me itch all over my neck and shoulders. I had terrible rashes from it. So maybe its your protein drink that you are taking.

Kimberly, Have you been taking any vitamins. Centrium Silver makes people itch. If it persists call your physcian. The worst thing to have are itchy feet. Believe me. Karen Napolitano

Are you taking a B12 complex? B vitamins can cause you have what's called a Niacin Flush...that can make you itchy. Does it go away or is it constant? I'd talk to your doc about it.

I can't tell you why it happens, but mine was my hands and arms. The only thing I can tell you is LOTS of coco butter.

Switch to a good powerful "liquid" vitamin / mineral supplement like VEMMA. Sounds like you are allergic to niacin, happens often. Go to www.TrySomeVemma.com

This was also happening to me as well as hair loss (more than what I saw other GBS patients losing) and being cold all of the time. Found out through my PCP that these were all symptoms of a low thyroid. Even though my thyroid levels checked out normal, she decided to put me on a very low grade amount (T-3) and all of those symptoms subsided. God's best for you! - Pam H. in Broken Arrow, OK

I'm 9 weeks out and have had a terrible rash (itching) on my feet and a few in other places. I had started taking Centrum Silver when this happened. I stopped taking it the other day and the itching has stopped plus no new breakouts. The only thing is my hands... they itch with no rash. I think it's a holdover from the Centrum Silver.... I hope. I think the fish oil may help... I'm hoping. Good Luck and I hope this helps!

Around 7 months post-op, I started to have terrible itching on my neck and chest (from jaw line to bra line). When the neck/chest stopped itching, my arms and hands started itching. The only thing that helped was using an anti-itch cream daily after my shower. (I use a non-steroidal cream - Aveeno in a blue and tan tube.) I hadn't changed any foods, medication or lotions, so I'm not sure of the cause.

Any rash or lesions? Medication, vitamins, or residual anesthesia could do it. Talk to your doctor/surgeon about it at the next visit.
