Question:
"HAIR LOSS" has anyone read or heard of anything new on hair loss?
I have read so many different views on hair loss. Some have said nothing works, others recomend Biotin suppliments and Nioxin shampoo. I was just wondering if there's anything new out there. I'm almost 3 month out and noticed the hair loss. I'm a little depressed but very accepting. It could all be worse. — spicybarbzie (posted on August 6, 2008)

I also started to lose hair at 3 months out. My doctor (Dr. Hendrick,
Wyandotte,MI) recommended "Maxi Hair". I've been taking it and
happy to report new hair growth. It's actually thickening up nicely. I'm
8 months out now. You can get it at the health stores in the state or you
can order it online.

I am loosing my hair too ... started at about 3 months post op too. My
hair is thick so I am only noticing lots of hair coming out when I wash it.
So are not enought to tell that it is really thinner. I have been taking
Biotin for about 2 months now. See no results ... good or bad ... from
taking it. It is for hair, nails and skin. Everything is the same ... no
changes. Not sure about biotin. I actually take 2 a day ... one in the
morning and one at night. The bottom suggests taking one a day too. I
will have to check into the Mai-hair for sure!

I believe almost everyone has hair loss to some degree. Mine started about
3 months and I lost alot, but I am happy to report that at 7 months it is
finally slowing down and I'm NOT BALD! Make sure you get alot of protein
in as well as Biotin and Nioxin shampoo. My doctor recommended all of the
above and I took them faithfully and will until I know for sure I'm through
losing hair.

It should stop at about 6 months.....depending on how much weight you're
losing at the time. Mine was really shedding and thank goodness for my
thick hair. I just kept getting a really good hair cut... took biotin...
making certain I got plenty of protein...which is key.....and I only washed
it every other day. Now.....I don't lose more than a few strands....just
like normal. Good luck....and I'm sure you'll get over this hump very
soon! Cheryl

I have lost the hair before when on Optifast and found it very depressing.
This time I look at it as a good sign. It is just further confirmation
that I am losing weight and I am very thankful for anything that reminds me
of that.

The biggest reason for Hair loss is lack of enough Protein.....your hair is
protein and if it doesn't get fed just like you it will become sick and
die............so get your protein no matter what....if it's the only thing
you can eat .....Eat your protein first......make sure you have no less
than 65 grams a day....and most of it MUST BE from food and not shakes or
other protein supplements.......so get a book that tells you the value of
protein of each item you eat and count and make sure you are eating
enough.....

We all experience hairloss. I expected it, but was taken aback when it did
not stop. I was literally losing handfuls of hair with each brushing. I
was using a gallon of draino weekly in my shower. Needless to say I was
getting worried. I mean has anyone ever went bald from wt loss
surgery????????? I was given some valuable info. I now take extra
vitamins. Multi vitamin, vit e, vit b complex, b12 shot, and a hair skin
and nails vitamin 3 times a day. B vitamins are excreted in your urine
which means you can't overdose. My hair is improving, looks healthier, and
not to mention I now have my fingernails back! Increase your E and B
vitamins! Good Luck

Most people seem to start the hair loss at about 3 months. I never had a
problem with hair loss/thinning. I was extremely lucky, I never took
Biotin or Nioxin I just focused all of my meals on high amounts of protein
and my surgeon said that is probably why I did not lose any hair.

I'm 4 1/2 months out and was very lucky not to have lost any hair to date
*knocking on wood hard!* I've used Nioxin faithfully since day one and
taken biotin suppliments ... haven't been as hard core w/ the biotin as I
should have been. Many of us do an excellent job getting our vitamins and
protein in, for whatever reason some have more trouble with hairloss than
others, even with the best of knowledge and care.

I have lost 96 pounds in 5 months and have had little to no hair loss. I
have had the benefit of a certified nutritionist to help me BALANCE my diet
so that I get the correct amount of PROTEIN and CARBOHYDRATES to MAXIMIZE
my weight loss without having my body's metabolism set point set itself to
starvation mode and ROB my body of it's own PROTEIN. This is what is
happening when you lose your hair. You do not WANT to lose protein because
PROTEIN helps BURN FAT! PROTEIN is what makes up the MUSCLES in your BODY.
When your body ROBS itself of protein it does so indiscriminately. It
will take it from your Leg, your HAIR, or your HEART! This is NOT a good
thing to happen! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that EVERYONE schedules an appointment
with a CERTIFIED Nutritionist. A Certified Nutritionist will be able to
help you set up a diet that is CALCULATED to MAXIMIZE your weight loss and
is calculated specifically for YOU! Each person's needs are DIFFERENT.
Each person's DIETARY NEEDS will be different as WELL. Using SOMEONE
ELSE'S DIET is NOT a good idea. It may have been calculated using the
wrong formula for YOUR NEEDS. The person may be bigger or smaller than you
are or in a different stage of their weight loss journey, and you will be
sorely disappointed with the results if you were to use the diet created
for that person and it was not optimized for YOUR needs. I hope this helps
answer your question and gives you some helpful advice that you can use.

When I got on a good liquid vitamin my hair loss stopped. I tried several
before finding passion4life liquid - one ounce per day and it's all
inclusive. My hair stopped falling out and I feel so good on it, plus it
tastes good! www.passion4lifevitamins.com/tarra

I'm three years out and I'm still losing hair! Thanks for all your answers!
I will try the suggestions. I'm not bald, but I have lost my thick hair...I
take my vitamins daily, but don't have as many protein shakes as I probably
need! I do eat protein first...
