Question:
6 months post Revision to RNY, how many ounces food at 1 meal?

Hi everyone! I am eating normal foods, usually anywhere from a 1/4 cup (2 ounces) to 3/4 cup (6 ounces) at a time, but sometimes I eat as much as a cup (8-9 ounces) at a time, is this too much at one sitting, or is this within normal limits? Thanks everyone!    — Gina S. (posted on July 28, 2008)

I'm also six months out and my nut told me that I should be eating more than the first couple of months after surgery. She said that I should be eating less than other people though and certainly less than what I ate before RNY. Sometimes I think to myself, "Am I eating too much?" And then I look at other's plates and realize that I"m not. I don't really measure my food...just portion out an amount that it looks like I can eat...generally about a cup I'd guess. WIth pizza I would eat 1 piece. Sometimes I'll have a bite or two of something else...snack, desert...but then I'm done. Even if I feel I could eat a little more I generally try to resist and am happy I did because the full feeling starts for me a little while later. It sounds to me like you're still on course and of course the scales should also be letting you know how well you're doing.

Hello! I am 6 months post op from the RNY. I can eat about 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup of food at one sitting. I know for me it seems like a lot because I am so mentally stressed about gaining the weight back. My doctor says the amount of food I am eating is fine. I hope this helps you. Julie

You are doing fine...A word of advice though...Do not begin to eat more and more...You should not exceed much more than that 8-9 ounces forever...Even if you have to begin weighing your food to KNOW what will keep you satisfied...There eventaully comes that day when all losing stops and at that point, you have to stop increasing and may even need to ct back so you do not begin to gain...Maintenance is a bit harder...It's easy to gain once the weight stops...KNOW your limits now...My Nut told me long ago...that eventaully I should be able to eat 8-10 ounces with no trouble and to NEVER EVER eat more than that...I can easily eat 6 ounces of meat and a few ounces of veggies and often times I will weigh out 4 ounces of meat because I know that too will keep me satisfied...and if I still feel hungry I will add an ounce of two of extra meat...but not carbs...I have kept my weight within 10 lbs range...I have gained a little and have had to get right on top of it and lose it by cutting back....often times it's not even about quantity of food, but of what food I am eating...such as carbs and sugar always make me gain...I find that's usually what I have to cut out...So watch yourself and stay focused and you will do fine...eat naughty foods in moderation or not at all if you are that strong! (I'm not...I find myself testing the waters!...so I allow a little room but without guilt) A test or taste is all I allow myself or I will find myself trying to find ways to make bad food okay in my own mind...I still have an eating disorder and I keepit in check by honesty tomyself and no more deprivation...Because that alwys lead to binges...If I want it..I take a taste and that just makes me so happy! It's enough...It has to be! Once it is not enough...I get out my sneakers and jogging suit and old fatty pictures and remind myself that I can run now instead of walking with that cane and in all that pain...

I am 6 weeks out with RNY. My stomach holds 3oz.,so I eat only according to that amount. My understand is if I were to eat more ( oz. ) each meal, the stomach will start to expand over time. This may put me back where I started, and I am not going back. So,go by your stomach size. Its safer
