Question:
Nausea and vomitting
I had an open RNY on 3/18/08 and for the past few days I am not keeping much down. I eat and a few minutes later I become very nauseous and end up throwing up. I t happens with liquids also. Anyone go through this? Is it a stricture? Thanks, Ana Villa, RN — nursevilla (posted on May 4, 2008)

Hi Ana, I did the same thing about 6 weeks out after my surgery in
January, 2008. My doctor prescribed Carafate and Nexium and after taking
the meds for a irritated lining in the stomach and esophagus, it was much
better. I still take Nexium daily and the Carafate if the nasuea is really
bad. It lasted about 2 to 3 weeks. I have lost 61 pounds as of now and
have very little trouble! Good luck!

August 6th 2007 and that same exact thing happen to me it was two weeks
after I got out of the hospital I called the hospital and told them what
was going on and they asked if I could come in and get an xray done of me
swallowing and when I had it done the doc said yes It was a stricture he
could see the blockage and where the stricture had grew scar tissue he
said. After that I did not have any more issues just being Nausated alot

Check with your Doctor. I had the same thing and the outlet of my pouch
had closed due to scarring. Approximately 5% of RNY patients get this
problem.

Hi Ana, you need to run this by your surgeon, you are too soon past surgery
to guess. I could be a stricture, especially if you are throwing up
liquids. You are an RN, so you know what dehydration can do to you.
Please call your surgeon today, don't wait to get bad to make that call.

me da. Que te mejores.

I took Carfafate 1GM/10 ML Suspension for two to three weeks 1/2 hour
before meals and it resolved my issues, but one other in my support group
had to go back because of a stricture. They corrected it in the office
with a baloon device that opens the pouch opening as it was healing too
much. Call your doctor either way and talk to his head nurse. They will
get you a perscription or get you in for a check-up early to make sure you
are OK. The lady that this happened to did not call the doctor for 3
weeks, and when she came to the first support group, she had lost 40 pounds
in just 4 weeks. She could keep nothing down except small sips of juice or
water. Best of success to you.
