Question:
Need Suggestions!!
I am 4 weeks post-op from RNY and need suggestions on "semi-soft" protrien foods. The sheet the doctor's office gave me says at 4 weeks to add bites semi-soft protein foods with a couple of suggestions like cottage cheese, scrambled egg & refried beans. I am getting a little tired of those foods. — CROJAS (posted on May 2, 2008)

Here's an easy one, loaded with protein. Take a couple of ounces of low
fat Ricotta Cheese, mix with one beaten egg, add salt, pepper and garlic
powder to taste. Spray a ramekin with a tiny bit of Pam spray and bake
until well set. Top with a couple of tablespoons of LOW SUGAR spaghetti
sauce. Tastes like the inside of a ravioli. Welcome to the loser's bench
and good luck.

Yogurt, Mashed Banana, Baked Potato, sugar free pudding, ground turkey,
ground pork, string cheese are just to name a few things I had while on the
semi soft protein diet that I used post op. -- Karen

Try 1% Fat Hard cheese, Yogurt, home made chicken soup (cut up the chicken
into very small pieces of about 1/4" square) with fresh vegetables (no
pasta). Try zip lock steam bags to do a variety of fresh vegetables, the
instructions are printed on the zip lock microwave steam bags. Try Making a
Egg Plant casserole with low fat cheese, yogurt and a tomato based sauce
(if you don't cook much, just use low sugar tomato based pasta sauce. For
breakfast try scramble eggs with low fat hard cheese served with 1/2 cup of
fresh fruit.

Moistened meats like from soup are good...Split pea soup with ham, lentils
soups with chicken, cottage or riccotta cheese whipped smooth with a box of
sugar free pistacho or banana or cheesecake flavor is delicious for a
snack/dessert...
canned meats and fishes are semi soft proteins because they are moistened.
Tofu Chili, stews, soups, Just be careful with anything that needs
chewing! Chew chew chew!

You can also go to the main RNY Forum and look up "Eggface". She
has wonderful recipes for all stages of eating. Really!

I had the same problem. Everything was so bland and the protein levels well
were lacking after a while. I started making my own smoothy that I could
sip away it had lots of fruit and tons of protein. Here's the base, you can
obviously change the flavors to fit your flavors.
1 8oz sugarfree yogurt
V8splash diet choose the flavor to match your fruit selections
splenda sweetened ice cream. (wal-mart has great vanilla or strawberry,
I've tried both)
Fruits that blend well: Strawberries, Peaches, blueberries, mango, kiwi,
banana.
Just blend the stuff up you may need to add a little splenda depending on
your taste preferences, but My children even freeze them and prefer to eat
them instead of ice cream. Every bit of it is sugar free and as high in
sugar as possible.
