Question:
Did anyone else have to submit pictures to prove..
...you were morbidly obese? I have all of my weights documented for '06, '07, & '08 but I am missing a weight for '05. I gave some pictures to the insurance lady at my doctors office. They were from my sister-in-law's wedding in May of '05. Those are the only pictures I could find of myself for that year. Do you think those pictures will work - or do you think the ins. company will ask for more pictures? — Melissa D. (posted on April 8, 2008)

No, that wasn't a requirement for me however, I did write a personal letter
explaining why I needed WLS and provided a CD of pictures to the insurance
company for their review and was approved within a few days! Good Luck!

Your insurance company is the only one who can decide what they need to
approve your surgeyr. Every company is different...mine even changed their
mind half way through the process. It worked out in my favor but I
realized it could have easily gone the other way too. Insurance companies
are fickle. Find out EXACTLY what they need.

It may depend on your insurance company's policies. It's also good to have
a date stamp on the photo. Also, you might want to check and see if any
other people had photos of you at the same event, possibly with a date
stamp too. This way, you'd have mulitple photos for proof.

I think you just have to make your case...I don't see how a picture would
be worth much anyway. Was your weight on file with your doctor...That
should be the best evidence.
I have never heard of pictures being needed..( No camera has caught me in
20 years...that would be a big problem for me!)

Depends on the insurance company. So will let you do that with a statement
from some one else in the picture or at the event that can confirm and have
notirized the date. Hope that helps.

Hey I had to submit pics because I did not have documentation for 2 of the
years I needed. The ones I sent in where fine and they did not ask for
anymore. And I got approved!
