Question:
I am 4 yrs out of surgery and have gained 35lbs in last 6 months, please help.
I had my TSH level checked and it was normal. I am very upset about the weight gain. I am also tolerating sugar and increased fat intake. Does anyone have suggestions? — kellyt1966 (posted on February 28, 2008)

Go back to the basics. You dont have to eat sugar & fat just because
you can tolerate them. My sister had surgery along with me 5 years
ago...she gained 35 lbs... and hasn't gained or lost since then. Don't
settle. And, oh.. if things were that simple, I know... but you've done it
once, YOU CAN DO IT AGAIN! Take out the pictures of yourself before you
had WLS.. and go to support groups and surround yourself with positive
motivation! You can do it! You will do it! You deserve it. You're in my
thoughts/prayers.

Me too! Doesn't it suck??? Don't get caught up in what you used to be,
look forward to what you WILL weigh. Set a new goal. The weight of what
we used to be is so much heavier on our mind that what we CAN and WILL be.
GO FOR IT!!

Lots of graduates begin to gain some weight after the second year. Most of
the time, it is from not following the pouch rules and basics...and eating
bad carbs. Do yourself a giant favor and do the 5 Day Pouch Test....It will
give back confidence that your pouch still works and after the fifth day
you willmost likely have the almost new post op feeling (tightening of the
pouch) Some don't...but most do, You will have gone back to the basics and
you will have rid your body of bad carbs and cravings. Your pouch will feel
100% better than it has is a long time. It will give you the confidence to
continue with good habits once you get thru the 5 days. many people lose
weight but remember, that 8-10 lbs after a gain is usually water...so don't
be alarmed if after 5 days you lose and then gain a little...It's normal.
This will get you started on the right track! Good luck! Go to the Grads
boards for testimony and support

Kelly, I have told this to many. You cant get down on yourself. I would
suggest to go back to basics. I am sure that you as alot of people go on
you have differant foods that are not to be eaten. fatty foods, Lets face
it they are easy to get, buy, as we are on the road. go back to eating the
foods that you ate right after the surgery. Not the soft stuff but the
chicken, fish, high protien NO FATS, NO SUGARS Etc. I haven't had sugar in
12 months. I have had a few times a piece of chocolate or something im not
to have, but, one wont hurt. Don't let one go to 2 then so on and so on. I
have lost 248lbs in the past 12 months. I have cheated and I know its very
hard to go off the routine! just regroup and go!
