Question:
Experiencing irregularity in weight gain

Ok, January of 08 I began noticing weight gain in the amount of over 5lbs. in a very short amount of time. I went from 230 to 238 in like a week. I eat the right foods, and I've gotten back on track with exercising, and I drink my 64oz; and like I said I've maintained really well, even my labs were fine from my last check-up. What I'm noticing is that I'm not eliminating the way I used to. This seems different from constipation though because I feel full all the time and not wanting to eat. The weight remains primarily in my middle though, it's not being distributed anywhere else. Has anyone else ever had this experience and what have you done about it?    — godzstrongtower (posted on February 22, 2008)

That is constipation. I have it that way a lot. My stomach will be bigger and I will not feel hungry at all. Talk to your Dr. about what you can take for it. Kim

I take stool softeners daily, and this avoids any constipation problems. Most RNY post ops I see at my 3 support group meetings take the stool softeners daily too. DO NOT take reflex laxatives (like Exlax) --take Colace or Senakote or their generics. Makes the white throne experience easier, honestly.

maybe you are gaining some muscle, also see if you are losing inches because you can lose inches and fluctuate in weight. Weight every other week and see if you are losing any that helps sometimes too. Water weight, muscle, and other factors have a lot to do with it too.

I get that about a week or 2 before my period. I gain 5-7 pounds, it lasts for about 4 days and then goes back down (but not when I get my period, it just goes back down!) I do get that full/constipated feeling. I make sure I go EVERY day. (Of course, I have already had colon cancer @ age 35, so I definitely don't want things just sitting around in there! LOL!) Try taking one stool softener every day and eating some fiber cereal. Fiber one has 7 grams of fiber and no sugar if I remember correctly. Protein, fiber, water. Protein, fiber, water.
