Question:
Has anyone gotten approved with a united healthcare written exclusion
they told me it was not covered because of written exclusion. any help on how to get around this is appreciated. Our united healthcare is through "the shaw group". — gingerbread (posted on September 12, 2007)

I have UHC PPO as well and it had a written exclusion my doctor told me my
surgery wouldnt be approved but said he would give it a shot anyway.......I
was approved after only 4 weeks of him submitting the information. So even
if it says you have a exclusion I think you shold give it a shot anyway the
worst they can say is no then after that you can always file a appeal.

In addition to your doctor providing medical documentation regarding the
medical neccessity, you might also meet with your HR director as request an
exception. Your employer could purchase a "rider" that would
cover the surgery in certain cases.

I have uhc ppo and when I called I was told I would automatically be
approved as long as my bmi was 35 or more. My papers have since been
forwarded and I'm currently awaiting approval. I'll let you know as soon as
I'm approved

Mine was not approved. Written exclusion. But years have passed and now the
policy has changed and there was nothing about "medically
necessary" so again I am going to try. Get a hold of your exclusion
so you can read it.. and go for it! Good luck.
