I walked a ton in the hospital - like miles a day. Once I got home, things
changed - I walked until I started to feel uncomfortable. I live on a
terrace with hills/ on a mtn. so it was quite different walking there at
the hospital than on rough terrain. I guess I walked around a mile or so a
day.

It all depends on your physical condition, were you in good shape pre-op?
If so walk as much as you are able...if not, try ten minutes a few times a
day. Most experts say 3 ten minutes of exercise is better than none.

I had the surgery 7 weeks ago, and my Doc said to start walking the same
day but going everyday little by little until I walk 20 minutes at my 5 or
6 day. I started and finished when I started feel uncomftable

I walk every four hours in the hospital, so I try to walk 3-4 times aday
about 10 min or until you sweat then you know you getting somewhere. We was
told to listen throw 5 songs on cd player, or anything and you have about
25 min in, going shopping, walk the mall, walk around your yard, it get
easier. good luck

Hey Woozie, welcome to the losing side. Good for you walking right away,
the sooner the better! I just took it easy for the first two weeks, and
then began walking two miles a day right out of the gate. It was tough,
but I pretty much only walked and rested those first six weeks. It was a
push, and that is good, but if you are too soar the next day, then back up
a little BUT DON'T STOP! Walk, walk, walk, and don't forget to drink your
water! Dehydration can cause too many problems that discourage (Like
constipation). Take care. Patricia P.

I walked a lot, each day after surgery more. At my one week anniversary I
walked just over a mile, to my wife at work who drove me home, geez was she
shocked to see me.. But I was pretty active before surgery. might be a good
idea to ask your doc. congrats the big loss was so much fun. I went around
singing my song:) I am a big loser, I am a big loser, as the weight comes
off, all the way down:) It drove my wife nuts. Worse I told all my friends
weight is neither created or destroyed, my lost weight must go somewhere,
do you want the 50 pounds? or whatever I was down at the time. I am a clown
joker type and had fun with the entire experience. Some friends well didnt
appreciate my jokes.

Woozie...walking at 10-20 minutes intervals is probably the best until you
start building up your energy, etc. Listen to your body...it will let you
know if you are overdoing. I would think that your doctor has a
nutritionist that works for him. They might be able to help you...plus, I
would think that they would have discussed this before surgery, so go back
to any notes that you have from pre-op. Anyway, good luck with it...and
continue to increase your time/distance as you go.
