After you have the lap band, and before your first fill how much food are you suppose to eat,or how much are you eating? — Sandy Hanson (posted on April 1, 2007)

I could eat a pretty good bit before my first fill, lo those many years
ago. I seem to recall being told to keep it to about half a cup at a
sitting, but that was a *job*. I was hongry! :) Everybody's different.
All I know is that after each fill, things will change. Drastically. Good
luck to you!

I just had my lab band surgery about 12 days ago. I was told not to exceed
2-4 oz per meal, 3x per day. 4 oz fills me up pretty good right now.

Because you have swelling around the band for the first few weeks, you
might be satisified with small amounts of food. It's a good idea to eat
between half a cup and a cup of food each meal. But once the swelling goes
away, you might be able to eat as much as you did before the surgery. Of
course, that you CAN eat that much doesn't mean you SHOULD eat that much.
But remember that any weight you lose before you get proper restriction is
bonus weight. It might take you 3-6 months to get the right restriction in
your band. Then you will truly be restricted to those small amounts of
food. And then your true weight loss will begin.
The first question my doctor asks me before a fill is how much food I'm
able to eat in relation to my pre-band meal size and how long my
satisfaction lasts. If I'm eating 1/4-1/3 of what I used to eat and feel
full for 4-5 hours, I have good restriction and might not need a fill.
