Question:
Can/will someone provide a sample menu for a high protein, low fat, and low carb?

I am three years post op, at goal, and in need of a sample menu (high protein, lowfat, low carb of course) for maintaining my present weight. Iam not sure I am doing the best job of this by myself. Help!!    — MariaHBW (posted on October 20, 2006)

Hi Marie, Congratulation, I got 40 more pounds to goal. Do you keep your appointments with your surgeon? He would be able to advise you. Do you have access to a dietician? I just called the dietician that works with my surgeon and she just sent me out a meal plan. I need to educate myself from time to time to keep on the right track. At every meal I eat ALL my protein first then the vegetables. You don't have to do this alone the support groups work well. Buy a book on the subject. I know I will be in your shoes soon and want to keep the weight off so I will be watching your responses to use in the future. Good luck. You got this far the rest should be a lot more easier to maintain. How long did it take you to get to goal? I am struggling with my last 40 lbs. Margie www.obesityhelp.com/?m=726782

You may find it difficult to do a high protien, low fat, and low carb diet... most high protein/low carb diets tend to be high in fat largely due to the reliance on meat as the primary source of protein. Low carb/high protein diets use the protein and fat to replace the carbs so I'm not sure how well it will work as low fat low carb. I definitely don't want to discourage you... i'd suggest doing some googling using "high protein, low fat, low card" or something like that as I'm sure you'll be able to find some meal plans for that. I did low carb for awhile and my day would usually include two eggs in the morning or maybe one egg with a slice of multigrain low carb bread, sf low/no fat yogurt as a snack, a low carb one if i could find it, lunch was a salad with egg and meat and cheese w/ low carb dressing, dinner was a stir fry with low carb veggies and a meat, depending on how much carbs i'd have during the day, i might have a some lower carb fruit...... i found tons of recipies for low carb (but not low fat) desserts.. one being ricotta cheese with some cocoa powder and splenda--doesn't sound good but tastes great. Oh, something else you might want to look into, vegetarian low carb eating.... the protein doesn't come from meat thus tends to be lower in fat. Maybe you could figure out something and get the best of both worlds. Good luck!
