Question:
Revision - do you regret it?
I have the opportunity for a revision and am researching. Is there anyone out there who has had one and wishes they had not? Please share as much info as possible. Thank you Tamar — martarbar (posted on November 30, 2005)

Just curious, why are you seeking a revision?

I am seeking a revision because my stoma and pouch are much too big and I
have no restrictions. I have gained back almost all of the weight I lost.

No regrets, had a revision from VBG to RNY three years ago, I'm still
within 15 pounds of my lowest weight. Had my second baby less than 2 months
ago, so I'm still sitting on some pregnany weight, hope to get it off
before I go back to work in Jan.

Tamar, have you been to the Revision forum? Go up on this page to Fourms,
and find the box for Surgery Forums. Use the pulldown to find Revisions.
There is also a box for Other Forums, where you will find a Failed
WLS-Second Time Around choice. There's info to be had at both of those.
Good luck!

I had the RNY about 6 years ago but have been gaining weight. I had a scope
done and my stoma and pouch are very stretched. The doctor suggested a
revision and as I am in Canada, wls is covered here so I don't have to get
insurance approval. Because it was so easy for me to gain weight due to
almost no restriction, I ate more than I should have.
Make sure that you don't let your honeymoon period fool you into believing
that it's always going to be this way. It gets hard again and if you follow
the rules, you will be successful. Unless your surgery breaks. And then you
get it fixed.

Hi Tamar...I don't think you should consider a revision until you very
carefully examine what you might do with a second chance. You said you ate
too much because you could. Well you are going to be able to do just the
same thing with a revision through grazing and stretching. Unfortunately
this thing is just not the magic bullet many of us thought it was. I am 2
yrs 7 mos out, lost 170 lbs and am now maintaining goal to 10lbs below,
BUT, it is a struggle everyday. I WANT TO EAT EVERYTHING. I think one has
to realize that we will be on diets for the rest of our life and just
accept that. So, I worry that in stating you ate because you could that
this may happen again. Please think carefully before you act on this. I
don't mean this to be any sort of a flame, but I just want you to
understand yourself. Mark

Hi Mark,
Thank you very much for your message. I don't see it as a flame at all, but
in the spirit which you are sending it, you want me to know that it's not
all fun and games.
I have changed my habits now - I exercise regularly, have a steady job, a
good family and friends who are around me. I did not have any of these
things before. I do not turn to food for comfort the way I used to. I am in
therapy, both individual and group, dealing with eating disorders so I feel
as though I am taking the right steps.
I am considering a revision to have the tool again knowing that this time I
will nurture it instead of throwing it to the wayside.
Thank you so much again. Tamar.

Tamar, I'm so happy you seem to be on a good track now. Boy, it sounds
like you are doing all the right things, and I wish you the best of luck!
