Question:
Soft food diet help!

I am 3 weeks post-op RNY and on soft foods. When I try to eat flaky fish, or even ground chicken, and tuna, Im having a problenm with moisture. If I dont have a cracker or some kind of sauce or something creamy or wet, it just doesnt go down well. Ive tried broth but you cant put chicken or beef broth in everything. Any suggestions?    — T. I have this problem also, there is a fat free gravy called serve-a-gravy that mixes with cold water and does not get lumpy. It comes in chicken, turkey and beef flavors. I make up 1 package at a time and put a little on my food and it make it easier to go down and it tastes great too. Hope this helps its worth a try. It comes in a black and white checked box with a chef on it. It's in with the dry gravy mixes in the supermarket Joann

I have the same problem with foods that are dry, especially meat....but others as well. I found that if I have dry meat of any kind, even fish, I can heat it up in the microwave and then spray it with "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" spray, and then season it with a seasoning that we get from the Melting Pot fondue restaurant or some garlic salt. That makes it moister and much easier to go down. Are you adding a little lite mayo to your ground chicken or tuna? I make a little "chicken" or "tuna" salad with a couple of ounces of meat, a teaspoon of Best Foods Light Mayo, a mashed up hard boiled egg, and some dill relish. It is nice and moist, high protein, minimal fat, and goes down quite well.

I try to cook my meats in cream of soups in the crock pot and serve over rice. This is the only way for me. Sometimes I have a little mash potato but that fills me up too quickly. Just be careful of the calories with mayo and ketchup. I try to use gravy also. I make lots of stews and soups with vegetables which helps with Bowel movements.
