Question:
Ladies I'm having very bad periods...

Hi, I need information has anyone else had very bad periods a few year after RNY. My Iron is bad, I have infusions about every eight months, my B12 and D go very low as well. The bleeding has gotten worst and worst every month. My GYN wants to try something called NovaSure to prevent hysterectomy. But, their is no guarantee it will stop the bleeding and I don't want to cause new problems to areas that have been good to me till now, If you get my point. I would really be thankful for any advice (It is making me feel old in my 40's and I never felt that way before)... Anna    — ANNAJEAN (posted on April 13, 2010)

I had the NovaSure procedure in 2006. I was experiencing the same problems and didn't want a hysterectomy at 42. So we decided to try this. It worked like a charm. I have not had a period since June 2006, not even a spot. After about a year I stopped having the "feeling" that I was going to have a period. Now its like I've never had one before. Sure, I may need a hysterectomy in the future, but to totally stop my periods now has been heaven. You won't regret it. Sometimes, it doesn't work 100% - meaning you will have shorter and very light periods as opposed to "flooding" like I had. Within 3 months of having the procedure, I did not need iron infusions, B12 and D levels were much much better. Oh, and I don't feel old just FREE of ever having to worry about "if I'm going to get it on vacation (or some other important thing)". At 46 I am officially in menopause and so far, besides the night sweats I'm doing ok.

Hi I am sorry that you are having such a problem with your periods. I had the Nova Sure done in 2/09 and I love it. I still have alittle spotting and very mild cramps every month but it is sooo much better than it use to be. It was a out patient procedure and I was off work for just 3 days. It was well worth it for me.....Good luck

I had it done in 9/2008 for the very same reasons as you stated...wish I had it gotten it done years earlier as it made a huge difference. Have had light to no periods since then...I think my last period was last summer. I still have the cramps here and there and sometimes a day of spotting. I was getting iron infusions monthly before the Novasure. I went from monthly iron infusions before Novasure to twice a year afterwards. My last iron infusion was last August. I get checked monthly and my iron is climbing on it's own now. I'm still low but not at the drop dead bottom anymore. I do take D3 sublinqually and that helps too. I could be the cheerleader for NovaSure...awesome way to avoid hysterectomy. There is no guarantee that it will stop it 100% but it sure beats having the Flooding of the Nile every 10 days! For me, the first year after the Novasure, I had a light period every 2 or 3 months and then I've had nothing since last August. I'm so glad that I had it done. I had it done on a Friday morning and was back at work on Monday. Honestly the first day was like having a really painful period - just wanted to lay around in bed. The 2nd day I was back to normal, no pain, nada..in fact I had a night out with my girlfriends. They could not believe how well I was doing. Easy, easy procedure that I would repeat in a heartbeat! Send me a PM if you have more questions...Cheers, Tee

Thank you so much for you response I have been back and forth over this for months and I was so worried I would make a bigger mess going ahead with it. You know they scare you so much with all the coulds and maybes. But my periods are keeping me captive now and I fell so tired most of the time and that just isn't me... Thanks Anna

Hi I had polycystic overies prior to having the RNY in Feb 2010. My GYN put in a mirina IUD and that did the trick. However now since the surgery I have been bleeding activly since. The follow up doctors for the RNY said that I need to have the IUD checked it might have come out on it's own. Also they said that with the hormone changes in the weight loss bleeding might occure. THey refered me to my GYN to be assessed.
