Question:
Weight loss pills, diets or methods post op gastric bypass?
Are there are safe weight loss pills, diets or aids to use 3yrs post op to assist in a boost in re-starting weight loss after I have started to gain? — kristikat82 (posted on December 20, 2009)

If you have successfully lost weight post surgery, try going back to a week
or two of how you did things back then. A little liquid diet and soft food
diet to get things restarted.

I didn't take pills to lose weight before RNY due to side effects. The
surgery is a tool for helping you lose weight and keep it off, but you must
use the tool wisely. Healthy eating and exercise is the key to losing and
maintaining.
I suggest rather than looking for pills or diet aids, you go back to eating
like you probably did after WLS. Stay away from those foods that made you
gain weight before surgery. Track your food here at OH or the daily
plate.

I agree with above. The purpose of WLS is to help in learning to eat
properly. I am 3 years post RNY and just weigh myself every week. If I gain
anything two weeks in a row I'm back on my diet and try to pump up
exercise. Using diet pills, etc. is just getting into the rut that got us
in this mess in the first place. Hope this doesn't sound too
"lectury".

I have to flip the coin to the other side here. I don't know your
circumstances. If you had effective weight loss after your rny, they I
agree... working out and eating right is the best way to beat that plateau.
However... there are some of us who have endocrine, metabolic, and or
hormonal issues. In the first two months after my rny, eating very
carefully and exercising quite a bit, I lost a grand total of 15 lbs. Far
below the average. In such cases, it is best to talk to your surgeon or an
endocrinologist to figure out why you aren't losing weight... but pills and
diets do SOMETIMES come into play. Best of luck!
